About Me:
I've known about raw for a long time and am now committed -- doing about 85% raw and having fun with it. I'm a writer of self-help books (Creating a Charmed Life; Fat, Broke, & Lonely No More; Younger by the Day) and am on year's hiatus from my beloved NYC, living in Woodstock, NY. I'm married to a lacto-vegetarian who's eating the raw food I prepare and liking most of it. I have one grown-up daughter, a lifelong vegan, actress, and stunt performer.

Guests are good

Philip and Amy from GI2MR are houseguesting with my husband and me in Woodstock for a couple of days. It is wonderful to have them and they are also making dinner! It is such a luxury to have someone besides me fix beautiful raw food in my kitchen. We'll be closing on our new condo in a fabulous green building in Harlem on September 3. I am so happy. I've had enough of country living and am eager to get back in the swing of things in NYC. A couple of weeks ago we went to Boston for dinner at G… Continue

So much for going public...

It's interesting to me that I aced raw from March 14 to May 4, started talking about it, and backslid. Being in someone else's home was a lot of it, but there's also a word to the wise there, I think, about keeping new disciplines and new awakenings kind of close to the vest. In the two months since I last blogged here, I went back to more cooked food, didn't like it, and have returned to largely raw. I'm doing Natalia Rose's "Green Lemonade" before the gym, then Jennifer Cornbleet's muesli -- r… Continue

When you get lost between raw and New York City ...

Hi -- I'm in the city for two weeks and am not as raw as I'd like. I'm in a sublet with a minimal kitchen and no juicer, etc., and in a neighborhood (Upper East Side) that's not real easy for raw. The toughest thing, though, has been the weather. It was warm the day I left Woodstock and I brought almost all summer clothes, but ever since it's been cold and rainy. I have responded with wanting to eat hot soup and cooked food.

What is keeping me from backsliding all the way like a repenta… Continue

Going Public: Victoria's Raw Blog

May 8, 2008 --

I've been keeping a private journal of my high-raw life since embarking on this adventure March 14th. Today I'm going public. I'm loving this way of life. Even though I was vegan for a long time leading up to this, the liveliness of the fresh foods really makes a difference. I am not committing to 100% because I need some flexibility for travel, family, and those cold, damp days when I know I'll want hot soup. Still, I am so attracted to raw that other than a baked potat… Continue

I love your energy! I just watched you speak on your webpage, and I find your positive energy and stories so fun, entertaining, and inspiring. Have you ever been an actress? Because you're very animated and communicate well. Anyway, glad you're here on GITMR =)

Hey,

Really great to meet you! I'm glad I could help with the redirecting idea. I was also trying to find a way to automatically import my posts to the GI2MR blog, but I couldn't find a solution, so I did the next best thing. What's your blog URL? I'd love to check it out.

Stay real,
Ankit

Hi Victoria, Thanks for replying. I live on the east coast; just outside Frinton on Sea, which is by the sea almost midway between Colchester in Essex and Ipswich in Suffolk........You know what else I notice about raw fooders, so many are into yoga. Do you think its an evolution i.e yoga leading to self awareness, vegetarianism and onto raw food. I notice your daughter is an actress (so glad you said that rather than the fashionable ACTOR) and my daughter is just finishing a degree in musical theatre, so I am thinking we are probably of similar age; notice I didn't publish mine (47 end of the month but don't tell anyone!) This being another trend I notice, only the 'young ones' on GI2MR publish their age.
Well, I must go, I don't want to bore you with my ramblings any longer...so lovely to make contact with you. Jocelyne

Thanks, Steph. That's from a book I wrote way back in 1997 called Shelter for the Spirit. It' still in print. It's a funny thing with books: you just never know. I was on Oprah with that one and she loved it, but it never made the bigtime, maybe because it's a niche thing. In it I talk about simplifying your life, meditating, and I have Appendices on home birth, homeschooling, working at home, and even dying at home. Niche, right? I'm glad it spoke to you, though, and I'm proud it's in my repertoire. There is a chapter called "Cooking" that I'd call something else if I were writing it today. Oh well, we grow and evolve. Bless you.

Hi Victoria

I loved the tiny segment you have on your site about the home reflecting your inner spirit, I sooo know this to be true, and so i cannot wait to be settled, hopefully one day soon i can create my own little nest, a safe haven.

Blessings to you and the wonderful work that you are doing.

Thanks, Jocelyne -- I need to work on the friends thing. (I need to find a teenager who'll help bring me up to snuff.) I

In my raw news, I just finished a 4-week raw food class with Lillian Butler and Eddie Robinson at Raw Soul (www.rawsoul.com) in Harlem, New York City. It was fabulous. Our "graduation dinner" was Tamale Pie, Ms. Lillian's Down Home Greens, and Raw Apple Pie (which we all took home to honor proper food combining).

Thanks to everybody who's posted a comment and asked to be my friend. I evidently didn't click the right link for getting the friends posted so if anyone is willing to contact me again on that, I'd be grateful. It's spring in Woodstock which is a real gift -- the winter was intense -- and I'm doing great with raw. I just discovered Jennifer Cornbleet's book and DVD and have made her ranch dressing, Not Tuna Pate, marinara sauce, and blueberry pie -- all so easy. Speaking of food prep, I bought a spiralizer at Live Live and I don't like it at all. It's some off-brand that looks like one of those "not sold in stores" infomercial products. What kind of spiralizer to you use?
