It's corn season people.

My my part of the world, harvest time is in full swing. There are advantages to living on the prairies. In Southern Alberta a town called Taber makes the sweetest, juiciest corn I have ever tasted. If you have some delicious fresh corn too, try this Corn Cowder recipe I made and thoroughly enjoyed last weekend: Saffron-Infused Corn Chowder 1 C corn (2 small cobs) 1/4 C pumpkin seeds 1/4 C extra virgin olive oil 3/4 C water juice of 1 lemon 1/2 t sea salt very small pinch of saffron - tiny! 1/4… Continue

Vita-Mix! Or, Why My Neighbours are Awesome

My Vita-Mix arrived today. I would have had to wait until tomorrow to pick it up had my awesome friend across the way not told the mail carrier he could leave the package with her! It took me all of one minute to rip my new baby out of its packaging, give it a clean, and make a glorious green smoothie. A perfect way to end a long bike ride in the heat. Life is so good.

Dealing with the Consequences

Some people need to learn the hard way, I guess. And it turns out I am one of those people. Two weeks ago my darling sister came home after four months of traveling, and the first week was an exciting time of late nights catching up and hearing stories of her travels across the asian continent. Our celebration also included a visit to one of our city's coolest restaurants which serves cajun food. Instead doing what was good for my body I tried out the deep fried fritters and had some cornbread w… Continue

Spinach masala

Here is the one of my favorite recipes. It combines three most delicious components - spinach, mango, and garam masala! This is my nut-free adaptation of a Russel James recipe I happened upon on the Raw Freedom Community's stellar raw recipe section of the forum (thanks to Carmella for posting the original). If you try this out, let me know what you think! Enjoy! Spinach Masala 250 g spinach 1 teaspoon lemon juice 1 pinch salt 2 teaspoons olive oil 1 cup diced mango 1/2 cup raisins 2 teaspoons… Continue

Raw Christmas

I am ready for it in many ways. I had such a great time putting a meal together, complete with cauliflower taters in raddicio leaves, sunflower and pumpkin seed stuffing loaded with fresh herbs, and marinated kale. I made chocolate blueberry squares and gingerbread. The food prep is the easy part. The challenge going into the holiday is not sharing food with my family at the table, fielding questions about my dietary choices, and resisting the temptation just to eat like everybody else. My goal… Continue

Hi Carolyn, I responded to your post about cycling with US pricing (this is what happens when you make an assumption) and just noticed that you are in Alberta! Yay for Canadian raw vegan cyclists! Let me know if you have specific questions about bikes, I love to ride and love to share my enthusiasm!

Your spinach masala is definitly a keeper! So good! Thanks!
I hope you enjoyed Montreal, it must have been a little cold though... you should come back when it's warmer, the summers in here are amazing.
Yes, I know Aux Vivres, it's probably my favorite restaurant in Mtl, the owners are very creative. It's a good place to bring non-vegetarian people, they're usually really surprised how good vegan food can be. Did you like it? There's not so many totally vegan places (with raw food choices) here... And we don't have any raw food restaurant. Hopefully one will open soon...
Which part of Alberta are you from?
Have a great evening!

A lot of the oils in America are distilled wrong so a lot of the benefits of the oil is taken out. You never want to heat oil. The plants for the oils where organically grown and there was a lot of love put into the oil, by a guy who spent years and years researching oils. They pretty much have a cure for every desease on earth today...just from the oils alone. The oils that we tried were Lemon, Lavender, peppermint, Frankincense, Aloes Sandalwood, Cassia, Cedarwood, Cypress, Galbanum, Hyssop, Myrrh, Myrtle, Onycha, Spikenard, Rose of Sharon/Cistus, and then there were mixes that had many different types of oils. Cassia and Spikenard were my favorite. I like Myrrh too.

Yes were in exam time, and I finished my last exam today!!! I'm so glad that it's over. I can finally go home, and eat some real raw non-cafeteria organically grow fruit and vegetables. How do you stay raw in Canada? Do you think is hard staying raw on campus? Do they make you pay for a meal plan?
