Cor, thats a bit of a open question!
lets see, i'm 21, well up for a laugh. I just started studying chinese medicine at middlesex university but i dont think its the most powerful tool.. and they're a bit iffy with raw food, bless em =P
So i'm a bit of a student, which is not the easiest place to try and be healthy but i figure that i'm only young once... hopefully i wont be old but thats another matter, do love the random immaturity..
Oww i have a great word which i'm trying to spread its spontainiism (loving the double i, though aparently there was another word with that which was like a knife to the heart...ish) its kinda a lifestyle choice to be random.. an i didn't like the word spontaneity so much, no way near as fun...
Anyway starting to ramble some what now.. hope that was an enlightening journey into me, if not i canne wait to hear from you!

Aw, I’m sorry to hear that your raw day didn’t happen :( But if you do manage to reschedule later on in the year then definitely let me know okay? At least when you move to London plenty of people will be guaranteed!
I saw you on one of the photos posted of Debbie’s potluck and it looks like you guys had a great time! I’m looking into organising a mini-potluck in Leicester now that I know a grand total of two other raw peoples! It’s a start anyway :)
So have you been to a monastery or met monks that follow the yogic diet? Ah, I feel like a very sheltered, un-travelled individual!
I’d certainly appreciate the info you read about the tribal people; always looking to broaden my understanding of such things! I also agree that complete veganism isn’t the natural diet, but as we are genetically closest to the great apes who are predominately fruitivores, it makes sense that our diet should be based on fruit and leafy greens, with small amounts of nuts/seeds and probably insects. The amount of meat, for example, that a chimp would consume is inconsistent and mainly just an occasional calorie boost, but not necessary. I also understand that meat consumption probably did play a key role in our success as a race, mainly because of the large amount of calories it provides compared to foraging for fruits/veg all day, allowing us to have more time to develop socially/mentally, working as a group to hunt more and more effectively. But now we are in a position that is so many miles away from survival (in the western world anyway), we have the luxury of an over-abundance of plant foods (albeit hybridised beyond recognition on most occasions, hence the usefulness of fermented foods and maybe seaweeds for B12 etc. – I don’t take supplements) and therefore are guaranteed to get sufficient calories to sustain us, so no longer need to rely on very energy-dense but sub-optimal foods (i.e. meat and dairy) in the same way. From what I understand, it is the body’s ability to process plant foods so efficiently that is conducive to optimal health and longevity in an ideal situation. But obviously there are loads of other factors (environment, water quality, fitness, emotional needs, etc. etc.) that are just as important.. But this is just where my understanding is at the moment, hence my keenness for more info! :)
One thing I really don’t understand is the consumption of dairy products, as it seems like a very unnatural thing to continue to consume milk (especially that of another species!) beyond infancy, particularly when the enzyme (lactase) required to digest it begins to decline after the age of about five..
Ah sounds like you are more adventurous than me in the kitchen! And much better on the greens front. I’ll often have a hemp milk, banana, date, cocao, linseed and spinach/greens smoothie (sometimes with an avocado to make it lovely and creamy) for breakfast, and then a big salad in the evening of romaine, watercress, spinach (and other greens from the garden), tomato, cucumber, celery, onion greens, and red pepper all chopped up and mixed with a linseed oil, lemon juice, cider vinegar and ground pepper dressing. I’ll also have some homemade kim-che and sauerkraut, and maybe an avocado if I’d not had one earlier in the day. I’ll often have a mango meal or other fruits instead of the smoothie, depending on what’s in season or what I’ve found on the market, heh. Currently, my only problems are emotional in that I find myself eating a meal in one sitting that is much larger than it should be, simply because I’m yet to find the will power to eat only when hungry and only until comfortably full :-/ Also, I really need to decrease my fruit intake (particularly dates!) and up the greens... Damn this sweet tooth of mine! Haha.
Right, I’ll definitely have to check Saf out next time I’m in London then! Some of those dishes sound fabulous!
Ooh, and I’d love to help out in the kitchen at the festival if I get the chance to... I need some more recipe ideas!
How was last Saturday? Did it all go ahead and was it a better turnout after the farmers market publicity? I'd definitely try and make it if you did reschedule though.
I did notice a woman posting on Debbie Took's 'rawfooduk' Yahoo group mentioned she was in Leicester, so I'm going to email her. That's a good start at least! Alex (my other nearly raw friend) and I have talked about doing a little raw stall or talk at some of the veggie events that occasionally happen in Leicester, or just trying to raise awareness somehow, but we shall see. How many people make it to the Oxford potlucks? Thanks for the offer of a place to stay should I manage to get to one!
I'd not heard about the Yogic raw diet so have been reading up about it and it sounds very interesting. Particularly the tamasic and rajasic effects of some foods, over-ripe fruits and overeating etc. I know I fall down in those areas! Annoyingly I'm not very good at letting anything go to waste, and when buying bags full of produce from the market, this is probably not the best idea. Can't say I agree with the use of dairy and wheat as sattvic foods though. Interesting what you said about the garlic and onion family.
So what's your menu for a typical day at the moment?
Wow, I can't believe you managed to go to the Saf preopening party! How cool. I've heard some good things about the food there, not so about the prices though! It is a shame about the non-raw elements, but at least there is still a pretty good variety of raw dishes to choose from. What were your favourites? Shame about the nuts though; you'd think for the prices they charge they'd do something about that! Ah, it must be fab to have raw friends to go and share such an experience with though.. And that you'll soon have these great places pretty much on your doorstep! You lucky creature! :P
A monk?! That should be interesting.
Ooh, by the way, got an email from Rob today and it looks like I'm going to be manning the Funky Raw shop at the festival again this year so hurrah! I can't wait! *happy dance*
It was, I think, my third consecutive Bristol vegan fayre, and I've gone with the same friend every year, so I couldn't really go on my own to that one, but otherwise I agree, much easier when you've only got yourself to worry about :) I do wish there were more raw foodies in Leicester though... I do have a friend who is about 80% raw, but I don't see her that often. She (and her son) are thinking about going to funky raw this year though, if they can afford it, which would be cool.
Hmm, where do you usually hold your potlucks? I'd love to try and come to one some time, although nearly 3 hours on the train to get there is a bugger. I need to learn to drive!
Annoyingly, the lack of raw peoples makes me feel fairly uninspired on the recipe experimenting side of things :( I have a few favourite recipes that I tend to stick to, but that's about it... I'm liking the sound of gooey fudge and choc brownie recipes though! Write them down!! Hehe.
Ah, you're moving to London next year then? Awesome. UK raw capital! I was there for the day last week and got very excited when I found durian in China Town. Worth the trip just for that! Have you been to many of the raw friendly restaurants? I know there are quite a few new ones just opened. I've only been to Vitaorganic so far though.
The one positive thing I will say about Leicester is that the big market in the centre of town is fantastic for cheap fruit and veg, particularly when they occasionally have organic produce and don't even realise it ^_^
I was only at the fayre on the saturday, and I went with a non-raw friend who wasn't very interested in the talks so I only really managed to see Debbie Took's.. I need some more raw friends! Who'd you see?
Ooh yes, would definitely like to help out in the kitchen again! And the prospect of being so dangerously close to Shell's amazing cakes again is making my mouth water! ^_^
Ha, okay don't know why I typed '14' but I meant 19... we're going on holiday this saturday for a week, and by the looks of the events/pot lucks happening next week, I am rather miffed, heh. Do you think you'll be doing anything like it again this summer?
I posted the potluck info. I didn't need more info on the 'Day' I needed less. Could you please write me a brief, detailed announcement for the 'day' so that I can just copy and paste it into the events section like I have for all the other events. I don't want to write your ad for you and you gave me so much info that I don't know what to leave out. The other listings are all about 4 lines. The only listing longer than that is a week long ReTreat. If you want to give all that detail, then post it all as a thread and I will link to it from the Events section.
Could you please be more clear with your 2 announcements? Be specific and be brief. Include a way that someone can contact you or get more information if they want to. Look at some of the others for an example. You can also post a new thread on GI2MR or UK Raw, with as much detail as you want and I can include a link to the thread in the event announcements.
Hi Joe! Lovely to hear from you!
Aw I can't believe I missed you at the Bristol Vegan Fayre! It was a great day though huh? Such a great array of raw food stalls and talks/demos; I was most impressed.
Definitely hoping to get to Funky Raw this year, and the Festival of Life... Just hoping my finances hold up! Hope the new camp site is as beautiful as Keveral! Are you going/helping out?
Oh, and I wish I could make it to your raw day on the 14th because it sounds fantastic! Annoyingly I'll be travelling back from Whitby that day so can't come :( Hope you have a great day though!

Lucy
