I am new to the raw movement. I read Fit For Life years ago and the concept of eating more raw fruits and vegetables rang with my soul. Unfortunatley, I didn't listen very well to my soul and I'm not overweight and unhappy.

Hi Holly, Katherine, and everyone,
Katherine, I could not agree more ... each of us travels in his/her own way and at his/her own speed. Whenever we judge ourselves, we slow ourselves down.
The most accurate and compressive major book on healthful eating is "The 80/10/10 Diet", by Dr. Douglas Graham.
www.foodnsport.com
FYI, Frederic Patenaude, whose book you (Katherine) mention below, learned from Dr. Graham, and his book presents a very watered-down version of Doug's information and program.
Most other RF teachers have people eating supplements, superfoods, or the like. These are entirely unnecessary and did not even exist until the last few generations. They are concoctions of the human forebrain and do not exist in Nature. Our species, as all species, is designed to flourish in Nature. Such use of additives is, in my view, a testament to the inadequacy of the programs they recommend.
There is a supplemental publication called "The 80/10/10 Success Guide", by Laurie Masters. Laurie is a brilliant editor and researcher; she edited Doug's book, as well as Cherie Soria's "Angel Foods" and various other material.
"The 80/10/10 Success Guide" consists of a set of very high-quality, laminated charts that provide detailed nutrient data for foods specifically favored by raw fooders (of any persuasion, in spite of the title). This publication provides much additional information, very well organized and concisely presented, as well. You'll want to get you hands on a food scale for a week or two, just until you form a visual impression in your mind of what you're really eating.
www.GreensongPress.org to buy from Laurie, or http://snipurl.com/811successguide_doug to buy from Dr. Graham.
If you would like to listen to a free audio program (approx 90 minutes), an interview with Dr. Graham done coincidental with the release of the book, please download the file at

This program is provided by the Path of Health Community. Following are several other free audio programs for RF beginners provided by the Path of Health Community:
From the series entitled Getting Started on the Path of Health:
1. What is Health?, available at http://snipurl.com/what_is_health
2. Messages From Within: Exploring Symptoms and Senses, available at http://snipurl.com/messages_from_within
3. Eat to Live!, available at http://snipurl.com/eat_to_live_all (zip file includes audio +handout)
4. Nutritional Self-Awareness. Self-awareness provides our foundation for creating health and well-being. This program provides an overview, followed by a detailed tutorial explaining how to use the free food diary at www.nutridiary.com. I heartily recommend that everyone, newbie or not, keep a detailed food diary for a few days, so that you can get an accurate picture of what you are really eating.
This audio program is unpublished as of this writing. Please write to me privately for the download links. Includes an accompanying handout filled with screen shots and much useful information.
Regarding patterned behavior challenges, cravings, and other manifestations of subconsciously-driven behavior:
5. Do I Have Two Minds, Or What?, available at http://snipurl.com/two_minds
Regarding fasting and monoeating:
6. Monoeating, Fasting, and Self-Love, available at Monoeating, Fasting, & Self-Love--Audio--Path of Health
7. Trusting Nature's Design, available at Trusting Nature's Design: Fasting Step-By-Step--Audio--Path of Health
Again, all of these audio programs are free. You need not register or provide any information whatsoever to download and enjoy them share them with others, or the like.
There are more such programs, but I suggest starting with these. Please write with questions, link problems, or whatever else may be of interest.
