I started food-combining way back in 1987 (after a bout of salmonella food poisoning!) This consisted of splitting proteins and carbs and eliminating all processed foods (especially sugar!!) and eating only whole, organic foods, mainly fruit and veg, no red meat, a little fish and dairy (goat's yoghurt, no milk). This way of eating became second nature after 12 years, but I began to instinctively feel 'something' still wasn't quite right, 'something' was missing. I had read Kenton's raw food book in the late 80's but dismissed it because of a line that dismissed food-combining.... However, mid-1999, I decided to give raw a two-week trial... and have never looked back! I went 100% immediately (after all, I was used to eating differently to everyone else and if eating cooked food is bad for you, why would you want to eat any?!)
The huge transformations that occurred immediately both mentally and physically were an epiphany to me. Back then, of course, you could talk to Karen Knowler (running the Fresh Network in the UK at the time) and David Wolfe on the phone or by e-mail quite freely and they were a terrific source of guidance and support. I became the Fresh Network rep for the East Midlands but being new to it all myself was not always able to answer everyone's queries! However, after 9 years of experimenting with it, I feel I now finally maybe have something to give back. 100% raw is certianly the only way for me.
I still cook for my family but my teenage kids are gravitating towards raw and even my 'meat and 2 veg' stalwart of a husband is trying out a lot more raw stuff. I think a visit to Chad Sarno's new restaurant in London will finally convince him!!!

Hi Angel,
The pot luck is at my house near Hillsborough. If you email me at chris@barefootraw.com I'll send the address.
If you can't get there until after 6.30 that's fine. It usually goes on till about 9 or 10 anyway. If we know you're going to be late we'll save some food!

Where abouts in Derbyshire are you? I'm in Sheffield.
We are planning a pot luck here on Friday August 22nd (from 6.30pm). If you fancy coming along let me know and I'll send details.
It's always nice to know there are other raw foodies out there.
Warm wishes
Christine
