I started transitioning to a raw diet a week ago (5/12/08). I have been vegan for 3 years and vegetarian for 9 years prior, so that part is easy :-), but I have always eaten mostly cooked food. So far, though, I am loving it, and plan on increasing the amount of raw significantly in the coming weeks. For those who are interested, I am blogging about my experiences at www.rawchel.com.
What type of friends are you looking to make here?
I hope to meet like-minded folks from all over, but I would particularly love to meet people from my area (central Florida).

Cool. Yeah, you can canoe up it, or just go through the park to the top. It's pretty trippy. Crystal clear water, turtles, etc. The spring is pretty fun to dive down into too. Rock Springs is also pretty sweet. I think I like it better actually, but a bit more of a drive . . .
Rachel!! You were so right! I had a craving for a certain taste so I tweaked it:
Avocado, lime juice, cilantro, garlic, sea salt, cracked pepper and water to thin it out.
I didn't realize you were in Florida. I'm in Port St Lucie but may have to make a trip up there next weekend to pick someone up from the airport. Any good vegan or raw spots around that way?
That avocado salad dressing recipe you posted sounded so delicious i went out and bought some avocados this evening. I'll be making that tomorrow for lunch!
Basically the deal with that list of foods that Juliano no longer uses is that they have been so intefered with through breeding and hybridising that they are very far away from their natural wild state. They are many, many times sweeter - todays apples are 100 times sweeter than they were 100 years ago for example. Go to Juliano's website for his unique way of explaining all this, or check him out on youtube he has a few corkers of videos up there!! http://www.planetraw.com
You are right, there is sooooo much to chose from! I suggest starting with the 80/10/10 Diet because it is based on our biological design. Once you read it, you will understand the underlying faults of all other approaches.
Whole foods are ALWAYS more nutritions than their refined counterparts.
-Oils are not whole foods
-Supplements are not whole foods
-Juices are not whole foods
You get the point :)
Also, all members of our species are identical and unique, simultaneously.
Our species shares one common design just like every other species on the planet.
That's why we are grouped into one species by biologists.
We share one set of biochemistries, that's why it's even possible to conduct studies. No commonalities, no studies.
It is for these reasons that we share one common diet. This is obvious once one begins to think about it.
Unique - “We are unique in that our perception is our reality, and each of our perceptions is unique, borne of a unique combination our experiences and our facility in exercising our various avenues for awareness. This is why each of our paths in life is unique.” -Elchanan
“Each of us develops his/her own, unique experience of life, unique interactions with others, unique perceptions, and so forth.” - Elchanan
Welcome Rachel! We appreciate you being here with us and would suggest that you just jump right into the community! This is a warm space so there is no reason to be shy at all. Make friends, start a blog post, create a group, or post questions on the forum page. Enjoy!
