Everyone has been to a cool club or bar and enjoyed themselves through an all-nighter, doing the walk of shame in the morning (or more likely, the morning after that one), feeling wrong yet laughing at the legendary evening before, stories to tell those who missed out. If not, everyone's seen the glamour that surrounds Hollywood and its celebrities that make it up. The media are always telling us how wasted Amy Winehouse is (whilst celebrating her as a musical genius). Nothing sells more copies of Heat than the drugs and sex scandals of Paris, Britney, Lohan and co. The Daily Mail doesn't stop with it's 'reports' of cocaine being the new wine of the Middle Classes - the dinner parties replaced by grams of the white stuff.
I saw a programme recently that really made me look at the party lifestyle in a completely different light. Wherever you stand on the position of drugs, these links will, I think, be interesting: If you're vehemently against them it'll support your arguement; if you're a caner and wish you could stop but can't find it in you to stop purely for your health, you might find a reason to stop here. If you're out on it every weekend and have a healthy coke habit that you enjoy and you don't wish to stop then thats your choice too.
Don't misunderstand me - I am not standing at the pulpit of the reformed, preaching to you as if you were Zammo - we are all adults here - I was just surprised to learn of the massive economic, social, and environmental impact drugs (especially coke as its presence in London seems very normal) have on the countries that supply the celebrities and wannabes in the clubs and bars of the popular and cool. Don't get me wrong, I'm not naiive either - I know drugs are bad but it's the same with anything - it's easier not to think of the bigger ramifications of your actions - to imagine all people involved in drugs are therefore criminals so of course there are gonna be guns, violence, death - half the Hollywood movies have all of the above in them.
When something affects you, I think it's worth a mention, if only because I enjoy writing as a way to work through things in my own head. Without judgement I bring these links to you:

I've heard that Dave Grohl comparison a few times now, and I have to agree he's almost as good looking as me! :o)
The talk by Brian Clements last night was fantastic, and well worth the admission fee. It started a bit later than scheduled but that gave people a chance to get some of the delicious food that was available (though you still had to pay for it). I'm actually eating a bit of raw chocolate cake as I type this; well, I had to bring home some kind of souvenir!
It was a pretty no-holds-barred talk, which is pretty typical of Brian's style, and he highlighted the horrific effect that diet is having on the world's health. What was quite scary was that in terms of diabetes the UK is now beginning to overtake the US in terms of adult onset diabetes in the under 16s; he joked that the US used to be the one to invent disease but the UK had broken that monopoly.
He fielded loads of questions on individual cases and on some of the dietary regimes that are out there. I tend to hold a lot of store by what he says for the simple reason that as well as being actively involved in research he works with a lot of people and sees the amazing effects of what he teaches on the health of the people that attend the Hippocrates Health Institute, and having been there and met a few of them myself I know just how much it has transformed the lives of so many people.
It's a shame you're not going to be able to go to the one tonight, 'cos I'm sure you'd have enjoyed it.
Good luck with the flat viewing. Anywhere nice?
Take care
AJ
Can't believe it's December already - where did 2008 go?
The internet's wonderful, but I just don't have the time to keep up a profile on all the pages that I used to. I had a myspace page and a facebook page, but not enough hours in the day to tweak them, so they went pretty quickly. Plus, of course, it's not terribly exciting for most people to read what raw thing I've eaten today or what mood I'm in. All I really have time for is this place and a music-based forum of which I've been a member for years. The Inland Revenue, HMRC and work account for the rest of the time I spend in front of the computer (which is already too much).
That said, things are far less stressful, so I'm no longer dreaming of all the nasty habits in which I used to indulge to make me feel better. Thankfully, despite a couple of REALLY stressful days I never really had the urge to have a ciggie either, which used to be my comforter of choice - not had one now for well over a year and I intend to keep it that way for the rest of my life.
Off to see Brian tonight at the Fresh Network event in Euston, which should be fun (and an excuse to eat some raw cake!). May even get to the one at CNM tomorrow - will see how it goes.
Anyway, lovely to see you back, and hopefully I'll bump into you soon, and feel free to drop me a line if you need a bit of moral support. In the meantime, if you want to avoid negative press, try here.

oh and did i tell you that am in love with those eyes of yours? ;)
i've been doing okay, just got back from vegas for a friend's birthday, caraaazy! i ate some baked pita chips and hummus while i was there and had some quinoa last night. honestly? i'm not kicking myself over it. i'm broke right now and payday is friday so if i have to eat a little cooked food (nothing fried, keepin it vegan) i'm not gonna kill myself over it. feelin' pretty zen - walking home from work (4 miles) everyday and doing yoga. i neglected it since wednesday of last week but i'm back to the mat tonight. :)
don't get down on yourself girl, just get back to eating more healthfully! it's getting cold over here, so the craving for warmth (tea) and fat (raw chocolate sauce with agave and coconut oil) is kickin in for me.
get back at me!
