On Being Raw and a Social Sagittarius

so it's my friend's birthday today and a bunch of us are going out to lunch on thursday. as of last week we didn't know where we were headed but i got the email today saying they want to go to fuddrucker's. for those of you who don't know, that's a burger chain. there's nothing i want to eat there. i considered canceling out when i read my horoscope for the week: (1) Not only is it true (whether we like it or not) that we are judged by the company we keep, it's also true that 'the company we k… Continue

"The Great Vegan Honey Debate: Is Honey the Dairy of the Insect World?," by Daniel Engber

There's never been a better time to be a half-assed vegetarian. Five years ago, the American Dialect Society honored the word flexitarian for its utility in describing a growing demographic—the "vegetarian who occasionally eats meat." Now there's evidence that going flexi is good for the environment and good for your health. A study released last October found that a plant-based diet, augmented with a small amount of dairy and meat, maximizes land-use efficiency. In January, Michael Pollan disti… Continue

"Bridging the Green Divide: Van Jones On Jobs, Jails, And Environmental Justice," by David Kupfer

Watching activist Van Jones deliver a speech is an unforgettable experience. Dressed in his trademark black turtleneck, black slacks, and black sport jacket, Jones can step up to a podium and disarm listeners with a potent mix of confidence and modesty. He speaks softly at first, but as he makes a point about racism or the environment, his voice rises and turns staccato. Afterward it’s common to hear observers liken him to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Trained as a lawyer, Jones has spent two deca… Continue

"Great Expectations," by Polly Shulman

Has the quest to find the perfect soul mate done more harm than good? Psychologists provide insight into how the never-ending search for ideal love can keep you from enjoying a marriage or a healthy relationship that you already have. Marriage is dead! The twin vises of church and law have relaxed their grip on matrimony. We've been liberated from the grim obligation to stay in a poisonous or abusive marriage for the sake of the kids or for appearances. The divorce rate has stayed consta… Continue

Students were actually well tempered and happy today...perhaps I conveyed a cool-calming vibe to them...

I'm addicted to nuts, which sounds funny and homoerotic, but really...its bad, can't get enough :) Trying to reformat the diet constantly leaves me making worse choices...I wonder if I will ever find even the general concept of my ideal diet. A clever synthesis of accurate research, joy, and community acceptance...perhaps its too Utopian though...maybe some day...or I'll just go back to eating what I like only :) Forget the super-duper diet....haha, more to come I'm sure .... (referring to Sheryl: why get two juicers? just get a fruit/veggie one that does both + grass...though I do have a odd desire to crank my way to wheatgrass success :)

I saved for a vitamix then had to use the money for something else (on my birthday for that matter) i was not happy..actually i was really fuckin pissed.
now its seems that i have to wait until early next year to get one. You don't need a vitamix because when your feasting you won't want the fiber in the veggies. All you need is a good juicer. My juicer is almost dead so i'm trying to get a new juicer before the month is up. I want to get the breville juice fountain elite but i'm going to have to settle for the breville juice fountain je95xl. I also want a greenstar but i might have to settle for a hand cranked wheatgrass juicer.

the only equipment you need is a juicer and nutmilk bag

I just got a million dollars from Pete. So I'll buy us both one blendtec and one vitamix. Can't hurt to have them both, right?
I think I'll hand deliver them to you too -- will you make us some choco sauce for when I come?

on the good side, i made a very cool connection, a have a friend, who him and like half his family love my chocolates, he works distributing raw foods for alot of different companies, so now i can trade my chocolates for all kinds of prepared raw food at wholesale cost. I sell the chocolate he likes for $10, but i charge him $5, then i get a $10 slice of raw pizza from Back to Life that he gets for $5, but i really spent about $2.50 in cacao to get it. :-), i love bartering, i also get hooked up on Tomberlilies Ice Cream, and Coconut Water, and hopefully more to come. These kind of deals will keep my coming back every month for sure

I haven't researched Blendtec at all. So I guess I'd better do that before I get out and buy a blending device. Saw a really intense discussion here the other day with both sides of the blender factions stating the benefits of their champion.

What blender do you have?

i'll probably head back sometime after christmas, i wanna be here for my birthday, but i also have to time everything right so i can come back in time for Valentine's Day, i'll still be trying to fly here about 10 days out of each month, it would be cheaper to do that than get an apartment here

Good thing we're 10-10-80 and not 80-10-10 - I bet the blender conversation is one of those deciding factors on if people can be friends or not LOL.
I have a plastic-not-even-sure-what-brand and I pray to God that it holds up for a long time blender. A vitamix is on my list of things to save up for.

Thanks for the virtual chocolate. It's helping already!

Weird occurance... when you message me your name does not appear in my "Recent Activity" box. Did you remove notifications somehow? Or is that your treaclerider/pirate stealth mode?

Hey lady. I'm really tired today. Wish I had some choco sauce :0)
I made a applesauce with banana, apple, cinnamon and flax seed. It was pretty darn good.
I have a green smoothie for later on.
I'm wishing your stress away LOL
