Great Run today.....but bad night last night...

So last night i did something stupid. I had been packing all day as the fam was heading to Long Island to my mom's house for a month (and we're here now, and it's AWESOME)..Anyway, trying to pack two young boys and myself for a month whilst said boys run willy nilly around the house screaming and jumping and basically being boys is...trying. So I didn't really eat enough, and finally it's 6 pm and I was STARVING. So I made myself a bit of cooked quinoa, which I had been including a bit of over t… Continue

Still struggling...

My guess is the depression and anger that I have experienced most of my life will never go away; it will just be managed. Today I felt irritable and touchy, and I know what that means. I also felt tired--another signal to me. I didn't have my green smoothie this morning, for the first time in ages. Instead I ate some cantaloupe and a smoothies with 3 bananas and 6 plums (yummy, btw!) but I think the kale or spinach is important. Ugh. I SO just wish this depression would disappear from my life.… Continue

My race today: personal best!!

Well, today I had my first race in forever: like, 8 years I think! It was a 4 mile race, and I exceeded my expectations by finishing in 38:30! That's definitely my fastest time ever, and it was all raw! I felt wonderful the whole race, didn't tire at all, no cramping..I could have probably gone even a bit faster if I'd wanted!! My fastest mile was my last one at 9:10...which was a goal of mine (well, to not slow down each mile at least) It was HOT in NYC about 90 and very humid, so I didn't wan… Continue

Facial swelling--WTF???

So this morning I woke up and my face was all swollen. I am thinking one of two things. I wrapped my feet last night in saran wrap after moisturizing them. I heard this softens calluses, but maybe I did it too tight and restricted circulation? The other thing is that last night I had my first nut-heavy meal in AGES. I had nut-orange-date bars and corn and cashew soup. Maybe all those nuts caused a reaction? Who knows. It seems to be going away. I had a cup of green tea which I know is a diuretic… Continue

I used to work right there on Whitehall and Water St. This was back in my extremely SAD days. I spent many a drunken night in the bars after work.

Nothing much shaking lately. Well, not true, I got a lot going on in my head, but in terms of things moving and grooving, all is quiet.

Just curious... where do you go running?

Thanks for your good wishes! I wish you the best of results with the 811 as well!
As for the dressing: my favorite salad is a greek salad - no olives or feta cheese. So I slice tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, (a little onion - just to finish the ones I had), a little parsley (cannot throw it all out!), and romain lettuce... and for the dressing I have to admit I put a bit of celtic sea salt... but just a bit, 4 - 5 grains; this is much less than what I used to use... and about 1/2 teaspoon olive oil (have to finish it - will not throw it away!) Today I finished olive oil and so now I will be finishing flax seed oil ... but only about 1/2 teaspoon a day... once I will finish it - I think I will be fine without any oil - tomatoes add to the salad the appropriate 'sourness' and juiciness... and so it's very good. This has been my favourite salad from my childhood - and I am nicely surprised to see it is quite frutarian - and in accordance with 811. I think a bit of oil (like 1/2 tsp) once in a while is allowed in the 811 book.
What about you - do you have any favorite recipes or dressings? Good night, Nettle

P.S. One of my friends just blends 1/2 lemon and 1 orange or grapfruit & a bit of an avocado and uses this as a dressing. I have not tried it, yet - but as soon as oranges will be again in season here (Canada) I will start juicing them & using them for dressings.

Yes, I run a bit. I started when I went raw three years ago. I hadn't ever really run before that, I did mostly power walking and such. But, I enjoy it. It keeps me focused and motivates me to keep healthy. I sign up for a 5K every other month so that I can keep on track. I am a slow runner. I run about a 11-12 minute mile, as I said slowwwww. But, I get across the finish line :)
I have a half marathon scheduled for November so I will start "training" for that next week. I can walk that far if I have to...
I've been on vacation in Oregon so I haven't run for the last three weeks, I have been doing two hour bike rides. There are over 30 miles of bike paths here and I try to take advantage of it when I can.
I am heading back to SD this weekend, so vacation is over. It looks like yours is just starting, good for you!!!
How long have you been running?

And, let me say it again, for someone who has had a couple of boys, your body looks fantastic. Mine hasn't been that trim in 19 years.

Keep up with the running and keep in touch
And, I love avocados and olives and have a hard time staying away from them, so I eat them in moderation. But, it is surprising how much fat you can end up eating when raw if you don't watch it.
I'm a chef at heart so I have a hard time when I am creating dishes to not eat them all at one sitting. Discipline, Discipline, Discipline. If I keep repeating it maybe it will sink in :)

Hi nycgrrl,
Well...I rather like it! I don't agree with Dr D on raw sprouted wheat - I still have some once a week or so - but most other elements of the 811 I'm right there with, I've become 'Bananawoman' and I'm even planning a 'Fruit and Leaves' class this Autumn! However, I'll still be running my standard 'transition foods' class and not all the recipes on the Blog and e-zine will be 811, as not everyone's into high fruit... I'd say most of my days in the recent month have been 811 days, bar a potluck I hosted recently, where I ate just about everything in sight... and I love my own flax crackers, so...I'm probably 80-10-10 80% of the time. The great news is that Dr Doug actually lives in the UK for several months a year and this Saturday I'm going on his picnic and walk and am very much looking forward to meeting him. So - see you on veg source (must admit don't post there much as find the layout somewhat confusing!). My passion right now - sharon fruit (and I'm sorry to say that in the UK these are the usually non-organic, chemically-ripened (!) versions of persimmons!)
