Has anybody found a really good yoga book that they reccomend? I really just want something with a bunch of poses, good photos, maybe some inspiration...nothing too advanced but nothing too basic. I'm already convinced that yoga is good for my body so I don't want a book that is trying to beat me over the head with that idea.
I realize this is a bit late butttt..... It really depends on the type of practice you want to start. I love Ashtanga Yoga: Practice And Philosophy by Gregor Maehle. He goes through the primary series in alot of detail, paying attention to the history/mythology behind the poses and anatomy. There is also alot of focus on yogic philosophy. It definitely doesn't replace going to classes, but it has been a great supplement. Hope this helps =)
Awakening the Spine by Vanda Scaravelli is a beautiful book with quite a bit of anatomy info and some postures. For just postures, I like 101 Essential Tips Yoga: www.dk.com
Light on Yoga by B.K.S. Iyengar and Ashtanga Yoga: The Practice Manual by David Swenson both have really good pose instructions/descriptions and pictures. They're both focused on specific schools of yoga (Iyengar and Ashtanga, respectively), but the information in each can be applied to more general yoga practices as well.
Integral Hatha Yoga by Sri Swami Satchidananda is an excellent yoga book, with great pictures of every pose. The Swami is doing the poses. It is so impressive what he can do!
