Give it to me Raw - Raw Food Community

What were your most disgusting eating habits before going raw?

Knowing what I do now about nutrition and health, I'm shocked I'm still alive. I used to eat some filth. Some of my former habits: dipping McDonalds french fries in my strawberry milk shake. I tried adding chocolate chips to my pizza. Probably the worst thing I ate was the breakfast burger from Carl's Jr: a quarter pound hamburger with bacon, eggs, cheese, and hash browns, all contained in one sandwich. That had to be like 2000 calories right there.

Thinking about it now, it's all rather amusing. So I was wondering what else people used to eat?

When I was very young I went up to Canada every summer to stay at this awesome little cabin. Whenever we ate out I would get chicken fingers along with a poutaine. French fries, mozzarella cheese and gravy. One of my favorite things in the world at the time but looking back...wowza. Then we would usually top it off with a double scoop of ice cream.

Onto highschool lunch was often folded pizza with french fries in the middle (great idea!!) along with chocolate chip cookies and a peach snapple.

What is cool, is that now days I really have no cravings for crap. People ask me all the time if I miss meat or pizza or ice cream or whatever and honestly I don't. It totally turns me off.

oh wait, how could I have forgotten about the bomb? my favorite sandwich in college from my shady little deli across the street.

I haven't read this whole thread, so this may be a repeat. But my worst was one summer a European friend introduced me to French Fries dipped in Mayonaisse
Just the sound of this is so disgusting now, but my German background said "yummy" when I first tried it. I've had other German friends who said they do this.
The other is that during the same particularly stressful summer, I ate whole pints of Ben and Jerry's. May not sound like much, but I am only five feet tall and that is like over 1000 calories, I think and shwag dairy and sugar and, and, and......Yuck!

i used to eat mcdonalds everyday as a teen. my record was a big mac in 2 bites. once i ate 43 mcdonalds burgers in a week cos i had some free vouchers...i felt like crap and started to make the connection with food and health..

then i went vegan and still to this day hold the record at the local vegan cafe a friend works at. 5 large gourmet tofu burgers in a row. most people order a half burger at this place cos they are soo big.

now im a low fat raw vegan fruit bat..my relationship with food has chilled. the abuse has stopped. maybe except for winning the durian speed eating world champs in thailand in 2005 and 2007.

i used to eat more junk than anyone i knew. now i eat healthier than anyone i know..

When I was growing up, my mother fed us traditional mexican food. You know the tortillas with lard, the beans with lard, the potatoes cooked in grease, etc. Can of bacon fat on the top of the stove all the time. It's no wonder I started having health issues early on, used up all my enzymes right away :)

The grossest thing was the menudo. This has tripe (which is cow belly lining) and pigs feet. The actually pigs feet were used. So, my siblings ate the tripe and the pigs feet. I ate it a few times but as I got older I guess I realized it wasn't the best thing for me. I loved the hominy though!!!

Also, she used to cook us beef tongue. The real tongue, sliced up, with onions. Then there was the liver and onions.

I think those were the grossest things I ate as a child....

Lots of frozen dinners.... like, for every meal. And somehow I deluded myself into thinking the 'health food' frozen dinners were actually healthy!!

Wow! So funny I found this thread today, I was thinking alot about this lately!!

So, even before going raw I had stopped eating this, as I felt sick after... but I was addicted to mayonnaise.

My favorite was dunking my pizza, at EVERY bite, in mayo. And my french fries too.

Also, a SPAM, mayo, ketchup and salt and vinegar chips sandwich. I'd sometimes put sweet pickles in that sandwich, too. Got that one from my dad. Miam. (yuck, SPAM!!! I can't believe I once ate that!!)

Also loved sour cream! If I had a nice crusty bread, I would spread a thick layer of sour cream on it and sprinkle with a huge amount of sugar.

And, I'm from Montreal, Canada. And one thing Quebecers are famous for, is called POUTINE. Basically, it's french fries covered in cheese and brown sauce :

http://electron.mit.edu/~gsteele/poutine/new_photos/plate_poutine_1...

And when you're really hungry, they can add cut up hot dog sausages to it. And "fancy" places can replace the brown sauce with spaghetti sauce. Or spaghetti sauce AND sausages. (Or chicken, or pepperoni, or fried steak and onions... if you can think of it, I'm sure it's been put on a poutine, lol...)And oh so many unbelievable combinations. Yeah, so disgusting now I can't even imagine how I got it down... but I used to eat it at least once a week!!

Thanks for the great laugh I had reading this post! Going to go eat a mango now, how weird?

When I was a kid I used to sneak jars of mincemeat out of the pantry, open them up and stick my finger in, lick the mincemeat off and then double dip it again... then I'd put the lid back on, hide it back in the pantry and hope Mom wouldn't notice. Bizarrely, the stuff never spoiled and was used later in pies. Now my eating plan is to eat stuff that can spoil before it does.

As, some more kid memories. When I went to my Grandmother's house in New Mexico, she used to feed my brother and me very hot chiles stuffed with cheese. About the only time I was ever known to not have an appetite. Another time she fed us chicken but it had 4 legs. No, it wasn't the cat, she just thought I'd cry if she told us it was rabbit.

Cow secretions... meaning milk? Or are there other secretions of which I'm not aware?
