I read something somewhere, I think it was from a Victoria Buetenko email (could be wrong), where a woman went to India and before she left, she dehydrated all her greens that she would normally eat in that time. She crushed them into a powder and put them into containers that said 'basil' and 'oregano' etc. Then she would mix the powder with water and drink it.
I did that recently on a short trip (not India) and I also took barley grass powder. Spirulina tablets would be good too.
I think if you took a sprouting bag you could sprout lentils and mung beans too.
india has lots o fruit. it depends what our version of raw is. if we are fruit phobic, then i dont know any shops that sell gourmet or really raw nuts.
lets remember the indians see the banana as a symbol of fertility and have festivals around it..so bananas are easy to get.
ive got a mate that lives in chantaburi thailand. chantaburi grows MORE fruit than anywhere on earth. she said to me once ''harley,,this raw thing just sounds too hard to shop for..'' lol!
she sees a town that being raw is challenging. i see a town that makes raw challenging cos of the abundance of fruit varietys and my high standards of eating mono meals..lol! ie too much fruit and not enough stomach capacity..lol!
ive have been to towns in outback australia where even the locals said ''NO FRUIT HERE MATE!" and i still found fruit..
winners never quit and quitters never win..
ive even eat'n fruit from the customs office bin!
thanks...yeah it's just that i'm a little anxious about cleanliness, illness etc...i'm probably making a mountain out of a mole hill, i'm not a longstanding raw foodie and so i'm still learning the ins and outs, i've been living in Thailand for over a year now and being raw is real easy, thinking of visiting India in November and shall try my best to stay committed.
the only time i got a gut problem travelling asia was waiting for a boat. i bought some pineapple from a vendor. i ate it and sat down to people watch. i was watching the vendor. she loned her knife to the vendor next door selling fish..
i had some stomach pains for a few hours and was ok...
only on 811 are we the first people to touch most of our food..ie peel a banana, mango, durian, jackfruit, mangosteen, longon, pineapple, dragon fruit etc..i carry a little knife to make certain meals easier..
You have such a pretty profile page Steph, with such nice music :)
Bliss to you as well! :)
*sigh* It's difficult. I don't know your body (or life) as well as you know it, but I feel eating sensibly yet simply, and not worrying can and does protect us from all the worst. I have not been in Thailand either (I'd love some really raw [vegan] Thai recipes), but you should be okay. Are you sure you're ready mentally for this trip? I'm sorry to ask something rather than answer your question, but maybe it will help us answer better.
It's funny that you ask if i'm ready for this kind of trip because it's true i am hesitant...i've just always wanted to go but that was when i used to eat meat and potatoes. LOL. I guess when you've been raw for a while it's instilled more into your way of life and challenging situations regarding food don't really occur...it's a journey in itself.
Anyway, i just thought i'd put my little concern out there to see what others suggest.
