I have just started to and so far feels right. I read that the longest-lived french lady, who lived to age 121 used olive oil on her body and face as well as on her food and attributed this to her long life.
I use coconut oil too, mixed with aloe vera gel in my tri best blender - makes a lovely emulsion and absorbs much better than just oil - coconut or olive. It would be excellent to add olive oil to this blend though. Olive oil contains mostly monounsaturates, similar to sebum, the oil produced by your skin for it's protection. Olive oil is fairly stable - only having one double bond - but will still be damaged by sunlight and heat (why you should buy it in a dark glass bottle). This is why I think saturates such as Shea butter and Coconut oil are better for exposed skin. Coconut oil is composed of lauric, caprylic and capric acids and when on the skin exerts anti-viral, septic and fungal properties, and helps to maintain the acid mantle of the skin. Sebum also contains lots of saturates.
So try a blend of olive oil, coconut and aloe for most enjoyable moisturiser! Of course, the Romans always cleansed and moisturised with olive oil, and the greatest athletes were rewarded with flagons of Olive oil - precious stuff!

ive put oil oil in my hair as i have a very dry scalp. let it soak in and then rinse it out with warm water but leave a little in to let it do its magic.
i use oliveoil for the body but not for the face...
i did that some time ago and my skin got very irritated... it became worse and worse and went to see a doctor...
it was just that the skin got too much "nutrition", too much fat so that i got those exzema/rashes... the cure was just t put on nothing for a while... and then i went back to organic facecareproducts wich are fine :)

I've been using olive oil for, gosh...15 years. I have extremely sensitive skin and am prone to eczema, so it just seemed like the best thing to try. I add lavendar and patchouli essential oils to a large bottle of olive oil and voila, I have a scented moisturizer. I used to use a tiny bit on my face and hair as well. But I find coconut oil is better for my face and hair: Olive oil may just be a bit heavy for those prone to oily areas.

Ive tried it and find it to be too greasy so instead I use a really nice L'Occitane moisturiser with olive oil and olive water ( also full of wonderful stuff) and it makes my skin very very happy.
Its too bad plain olive didnt work, so much cheaper!
