Give it to me Raw - Raw Food Community

Hi. I've been here for a couple of weeks, and have replied to some posts, but haven't properly introduced myself. I'm a newbie to the raw food world. Currently I'm eating about 70-80% raw and have been really enjoying my transition. So much so that my meat loving former marine husband is now thinking about making the change. He tried some of my zuchini pasta last night and looked back at the couscous on his plate with definite disappointment.

I am lucky enough to be the mother of 2 of the smartest, sweetest most beautiful souls on the planet (one of whom is in my picture), and although I'm haven't begun transitioning them to a raw diet yet, they're intrigued by all the colorful interesting things that I've been enjoying eating.

So, the other reason for starting this discussion is that I'm curious about what folks do for a living. I know that some of you out there are professionals in the raw/health food industry, but I'm curious how many of us aren't and what we do.

I'll go first. I'm a trainer/instructional designer for a very large software company that shall remain nameless.

It's interesting being raw in the corporate world. My company has a tendency to bring in food for us like pizza and buffalo wings and (ech!) fried chicken and ice cream. We do have a cafeteria that has a salad bar, but there is also a lot of bad bad food around. Plus I don't have the luxury of being able to blend or juice or chop anything in our break rooms, so anything I bring in for lunch has to be prepped at home first.

So, let's hear it. What do you do? Do you find it hard to balance the raw food life w/ working life?

I probably have the MOST ironic raw food job...I work at a burger place. I know, right?! It was my first job and then I worked a live in job at school last year and this summer couldn't for the life of me find another job so I ended up going back, geeez. As far as burger places go, In-N-Out is really good about treatment of their employees and freshness of produce but yeah, still, the irony. Don't judge me, haha.

No judgment Sunshine. Obviously you were meant to experience the SAD and fast food a little more and get paid for your education to boot.

I read where one of the great late 19th. century Indian saints, Ramakrishna, who was born into the highest Brahman caste, used to clean the toilets of the untouchables at the ashram where he lived. In his case, he saw it as service to god.

I went raw for many reasons so I'm not sure that it was a direct effect of my job but I have to tell you, it's quite an interesting experience.

thank you, I just quit my diner job to care for her full time. She was a second mother to me when I was a child so Im honored to be able to care for her. Its quite difficult at times, but you learn to adapt the environment to make things easier. Shes definitely not raw, but Im trying to offer her fresh fruit whenever possible for her health. she likes cantelope the best:)

I'm sending many warm thoughts your way, Sara. My grandfather had alzheimers and it's a tough thing to watch someone you love drift away.

Much love, Meredith

The hardest part for me is watching the personality changes, Its hard to watch her frustration, at times I can see the depression in her face when she has moments of realization of her disease. I just do what I can to make sure she eats well, gets her exercise and has emotional support. Her physical health is thriving, and she just turned 81. thank you for sharing:)

I'm in publishing. I was an editor at a company that produces non-fiction books for adults, but just got a new job last week in children's publishing. So far, I absolutely love my new job. :)

I've been bringing my lunch every day....not exciting, but healthy!

I am the Academic Dean for a business college (which shall also remain nameless). I also amm fortunate enough to teach the Politics and Government classes, whenever they cycle around.

Luckily I'm single, raw, and enjoy interacting with all of my students. There's no other job that I want.
