Give it to me Raw - Raw Food Community

Help! I just got my wisdom teeth out, and I need to eat!

I need soft foods - any suggestions? I've made a load of smoothies, and tried a raw soup, but with no success. I can't chew just yet, so liquids are kind of a must. Or other soft foods that aren't really chewable, but easily get-down-able.

Any help is much appreciated. I refuse to take the pills they gave me, so I'm on low dose advil and ice packs. Food is pretty much my distraction.

Thanks so much guys! I really want to stay 100% raw, and I know there are plenty of options. I just can't think of em right now :P

Peace, Love, and Happiness,
-Andy

Hi Andy,

Do you have a juicer? I just had a few old fillings replaced (2 and 1/2 hours of drilling ...yuck) and juiced a bunch of greens for the 2 days after. I healed incredibly quick and have no soreness. I didn't take any medication. I juiced kale, cucumbers, collard, red chard, dinosaur kale, celery, apples, lemon ...pretty much everthing in the house.

Feel better soon ...greens will definitely speed up the process.

That makes plenty of sense. I should be getting my juicer tomorrow, so I'll throw some things together asap. Thanks for the idea. I had heard that greens are incredibly restorative, so it makes sense they would help me out.

Thanks!

I had wendy's french fries dipped in a frosty to wash down the pain pills when I had mine out... It got me here today (13 yrs later), so either do that or maybe try frozen bananas and some fruit in the blender - soft ice cream that won't irritate the holes maybe...

Peace

I only had one wisdom tooth out, but I can tell you oranges are not good for people who are in too much pain.

Green juice and coconut water. That is what I used when I had my teeth worked on a few months ago. Doesn't get caught in the socket and very nutritious. Best to you.

@ RawZi, I can only imagine. I made a "soup" that had way too much who knows what and stung me pretty bad. So after your comment, I stayed away from oranges and citrus. Thanks for the heads up!

@ Pink Lady Apple, thanks for the juice idea. I have found that the little food parts do tend to stick around, and I can only imagine how bad that it is for a healing tooth-hole.

Thus far, I have forces down some big bits of watermelon and other various fruits, with success. The salad I tried today, though, was not as rewarding [carrots to both sides of my stitches in one bite. Not fun]. Thanks for the help and ideas!!

I think a little lemon in the right combination could be alright, but yeah, citrus, pineapple, tomato, anything tangy or with a bite.

aww...I feel you. In the past three weeks, I've had 4 teeth pulled out! to be honest, I just slept all the time. Literally like 18 hours a day I would sleep for a few days after each teeth was pulled out. I just drank lots of juices and smoothies. Best of Luck! :)

mmmmm super thick fruit smoothies that you can eat with a spoon

I read in an old juicing book that Pineapple juice was supposed to be great for recovering from oral surgery. I don't know if I'd try that, seems like it would sting...

When I went for a check-up after getting my wisdom teeth pulled, they gave me a plastic syringe that I could use to squirt food particles out of the little holes with after my meals. I don't know if all doctors do that, but you could probably find one in a pharmacy.

That syringe sounds like a wonderful idea.

Andy, have you had oral ex-rays lately?

I had them done at my last visit to the dentist, and then an around-the-head at the oral surgeon last tuesday. Why do you ask?

@ Julia, We used to have a bunch of em, I just don't know where they got off too.. That seems like a great idea. I'm just not sure if I can open my mouth up that far yet. LoL. And like RawZi said, I don't think anything with a bite would feel too good. I mean, I'm sure it has healing properties.. But between the salt rinse, and then adding pineapple... Man. I duno if I could take all that. :P

@ Khalid, I've been sleeping SO much. Like, 9-10 hours per night, and a nap in the middle of the day. It's so bizarre! I guess it's just the body's way of healing itself.
