The issue of recognition & the culture of 'celebrity curiosity' disturbs me. I think it's important that we think about it - this is not directed at anyone, but all of us - we all create the world we live in. This is kinda my theme of the month, so it's pertinent timing.
Because we know someone's name or face they become accountable to us - & it becomes Ok for us to pick through their actions, either approving or disapproving.
Is this any different to the 'cellulite spotting, who's lost weight / lost their man / had surgery' magazines?
A wise woman once said, she realized she couldn't please everyone (& so stopped trying immediately), when she had to dance in front of 100,000 people.
Will future 'Alissa's' be deterred from making a difference because they may find their name on some forum & their actions being speculated about? Who among us does not make 'interesting' choices in work, friends, business or relationships?
How would you feel if you'd just heard about GITMR, decided to give it a look & saw YOUR name as a forum title?
This is not about censorship or free speech, but about HOW we speak, what is relevant (where we direct our energy) & ceasing our gossiping tongues. It's quite different from a natter at the hairdressers or catching up on the latest news over a smoothie - once written internationally, in public, words are hard to rescind..
Who knows why or how people end up where they do - whether it be through ambition, hard work, luck or circumstance - does it matter? If the message reaches us at the time when we are ready to hear it, praise be. Mostly as we grow, we seek & find new teachers for the next stage of life - do we then need to reject last year's Guru? Or is that the way it goes..
