Removing the "Personalize Your Page" feature

Hi Everyone, Dhrumil here.

A few members have asked us recently how they can personalize their GI2MR profile page (the design of the background and colors). They've seen Charles's page and Philip's page and others, and they want to do the same.

For a long time we hid the feature because we wanted to create a uniform look on GI2MR. We didn't want to turn the site into a "MySpace" type site where it took 2 minutes to load different pages and every page had a different look. Rather, we wanted to go for a Facebook style community where the focus was on the person and the conversations and the content, not on the design of the page.

Even though we hid this feature, if you were savvy, you could figure out how to get it back.

Now, unfortunately, do to some challenges of load time and bugs we're getting with maintaining different designs, we're going to have to remove this feature entirely.

Start Wednesday of next week, July 23rd, 2008, all pages that have a different template design will revert back to the original GI2MR design. Your widgets, music players, photos and blogs will stay the same - you won't lose any of that. It's only the design that will revert back to normal.

Most profiles on GI2MR have the original design. Only a few don't. As an example of the original GI2MR design, check out my profile.

We apologize to those who enjoy their page design or have invested time into creating their pages, but we really feel this change will help the site perform better and create less work for our dev team.
