Give it to me Raw - Raw Food Community

Hi Everyone,

I've been juggling preparing cooked vegan food for husband and our kids and preparing raw food for me. As a result the raw vegan tends to suffer because I'll just nosh on carrot sticks or Larabars and not have a proper meal. How do you juggle? I have a meal plan for the family and somewhat of a meal plan for me, which I hardly follow because I am soooo tired.

Any advice?

I mostly just eat raw food here and there, not like I'm supposed to in sit down meals. It's hard, it's like we all suffer, it's hard to make two or three totally opposite meals on all ends of the spectrum every meal. I know doing it in a restaurant is one things, but somehow cooking at home instead seems different. It's nice when the woman has control of the kitchen in my experience, then everyone gets served the healthiest food, the most digestible, tasty, the least allergenic, but when you have people utterly addicted to cooked foods and they're not paying you to get well or too eat all fresh raw foods it gets harder.

Oh, I am going through the same things. It's so nuts, right? And when you are done preparing for the family you are so hungry that it feels like your ready to unleash a starved animal or something! I find that has really been crushing my efforts to stay raw lately. I'm good all day but when I spend some time in the hot kitchen over the oven smelling all of the wonderful yummy food I'm making, proudly serve my family, and then turn back to the fridge to begin to brainstorm on what I am going to eat and all I see is some lemons and uncut kale... it's like, jeez... somethings got to give.
I tried preparing some raw spring rolls in the evening after I put my son to bed and made enough to keep them in the fridge for moments like these, I had also tried to keep maranated portabello's in herbs, onions, balsamic and very little salt and olive oil to top over my romaine or kale and tommatoes in the fridge so I have something more hearty to turn to that is quick and easy and will keep fresh for awhile. I've turned to the raw olives and monomeals of huge tommatoes... but now that I'm working out again I find myself famished and justifing some really bad choices. So I am going to begin to detox today and stick with green smoothies and jucing. They seem quick and easy too =) Your not alone, hopefully we can figure out some more alternatives to cooking 2 full meals a night! Good luck to you!!! We can do this!!

Thanks. Some good news. My husband fired me from the kitchen!! He said that I should just focus on making good raw dishes and not to worry about the cooked. He will take care of it unless he is unable to (tired, working late etc.). Great compromise. He said I work hard enough as it is.

Woo-hoo!!

way to go hubby!! That is the spirit! I was going to suggest that if everyone else is already vegan they most likely eat quite a bit raw as well and you should just make extra big portions of whatever raw dishes so you will always have extra food for yourself. But then your husband had to go all awesome and helpful on you! LOL This is how marriage should be!

I prepare easy meals for my family, since everybody has their own schedule anyway... and I prepare easy meals for my self too... If I make anything a little complicated, I usually make enough for a couple of days, I don't mind eating the same lunch a couple of days in a row.... breakfasts are easy, green smoothies... dinners are easy, lots of fruit... that's how I cope

After getting fired from the kitchen, it was a great relief and I've been eating better. I'm not making fancy raw dishes rather I'm just eating a lot of fruit, salads, soups, juices and smoothies. I've made a couple cooked dishes for the family and they've hated it. I think I'm losing my cooked food gastronomical skills. :P At least I do the dishes.

im so glad that is working out for you.....
i have found that it helps if i prepare my raw dish and one cooked dish for the fam.....they eat both, and i have my meal also....it doesnt hurt anyone to eat a raw broccoli salad with their rice and beans......so i just use my dish as a side for them.....seems to work well so far.....
and if i am not full off of one dish i make a smoothy after, and make enough to make dessert for my 5 year old...she loves smoothies.....
