So I just moved into the most amazing little floating home on the Columbia River (Oregon). It is so serene and beautiful here. I really love it, the only thing is that is has no kitchen! It was originally a guest house, not a place for someone to live full time.
I thought, what a great thing not to have a kitchen, I want to be 100% raw anyways! My landlord put in a small refridgerator, microwave, toaster over/cofee maker...but I don't use those appliances. I have my Vitamix and I have never used it this much before!
Would you be fine without a kitchen? What would be the neccessities in your ideal food prep area?
My food prep area would have a refrigerator (no freezer), a faucet and cold to lukewarm running water, water-purifier, Champion (no grain-mill attachment), a container for catching juice, a cup, a spoon, slab of wood (I'd use for cutting board), sharp knife, knife sharpening stone, shelf (for honey) fruit and perrier, salad-spinner, glass jars, a work-surface/counter, (a bottle of) vinegar (to clean it), a rag for (same), a ceramic steel or glass bowl, a kitchen towel and NOTHING ELSE. I don't like having excess things around.
Your view is beautiful and serene. Enjoy your new home.
PS Ideally I'd want a spigot too (in most cases), but light bulb is not necessary. I like to see food, but smelling it and touching it is more important (I've lived without electricity no problem).
haha i was actually just thinking about this the other day and how free it would feel without a microwave or stove in the kitchen, just me my juicer, blender, cb/knife, fridge and cabinets of course to store plates, etc! awesome idea!
It's coming along, I'm still trying to figure out the best configuration for everything...It is really weird rinsing my vitamix using my bathtub faucet...(my sink is not deep enough for that, LOL)
I was just thinking the other day how much more space I'd have if I could get rid of that oven. Don't think my landlord would appreciate me dragging it to the curb. Actually, he'd probably bust me upside the head, then raise my rent.
Hahaha....yeah, about two years ago I attempted raw...was living at a home my dad owned, we were re-flooring the kitchen and my ex and I actually tossed the old Oven into the back yard! It was liberating.
