Aloe Vera?!

Has anyone tried the use of Aloe Vera, whether it be internally or topically? I have read that once you fillet the leaf you must ingest it within 10 minutes of a certain enzyme becomes depleted, which I fully agree with! I tend to do that with all my juices, (maybe not ten minutes, I like to enjoy them, but I don't let myself take TOO long on them!). But has anyone ever experimented with Aloe Vera? Do you recommend it? What have you read about it?

makes sense, kind of. laxatives, even the "natural" ones, are slightly toxic and act by irritating the colon.
you can get bottled juice that says "whole leaf" though. maybe the pasteurization lessens the toxicity?
who knows...i just use the fillet anyway:)

I don't think whole leaf actually means every single part of the leaf. I think it means the fillet because I've used it and it is a clear gel.

yes
that is true

I see I see ...
Whole leaf means
that one is eating the whole "fruit" if you will
meaning the fillet - the white / clear gel like part
NOT the skin.

In the same way we say we ate a Whole Avocado
and we are eating only the the insides - NOT the skin or the pit.

lots of Aloe Vera Love,

interesting. there is a sticker on my huge aloe leaf that just says "green rind and bitter yellow gel are extremely laxative"
no mention of toxicity.
i hope nobody reads that and throws the whole thing in a juicer, then!

I may be wrong though. If your bottle says those things then I guess they use everything.

if it is in a bottle
and on a shelf
it is toooo late
that has been BURNED - HEATED - everything else to give it a long shelf life - stay away from that stuff when you have the REAL DEAL ... whole aloe vera is how nature made it - well - that is good enough for me !!

no bottle. just a sticker on the leaf.
the bottle i referred to was one i saw at whole foods that said "whole leaf"
i got my aloe leaf in the produce section there...like i said, i can't eat my houseplants! i've had some of them for 7 years and they are my babies!!!
Hey Coco, you won't hurt your babies if you cut from the outside. Its not a slaughter, its giving them a haircut - Let your babies love you back... : )
I use aloe on a regular basis... sometimes I will add it to smoothies but most of the time I use it topically. When I first went raw, my gum line started to recede a bit (still not sure if it was due to all the citrus I was eating or some odd detox symptom)... aloe basically cured it. It is used a lot for dental issues.

The yellow/reddish sticky goo between the leaf and the gel part is called Latex. It contains the anthraquinone glycosides aloin A and B, which are potent laxatives, so if you are not suffering from constipation simply rinse it off.
