Give it to me Raw - Raw Food Community

I've always felt guilty about that little green star and the small juicy red flesh it held onto when I ripped off the strawberry top...But what could I do? It just wasn't appetizing to eat alone and looked kinda weird as the topping to a cookie with part of the red strawberry meat still attached.

I recently heard though that they are full of Vitamin C and other nutrients (of course! they're green right? ;) ) and they best way to easily incorporate them and reduce waste is to add them to your daily smoothie!!

What a great idea right??

I'm munching on a few now and saving the tops for tomorrow's smoothie. Yum.

Much love,
Natanya

So does this mission include us saving them and shipping them to you?

LOL - can you imagine?

Maybe you should dehydrate them first so they "keep"> :)

Funny, after strawberry picking with a friend several weeks ago, she called and wanted to know if you could eat the tops! I'll have to tell her!

I just throw the whole strawberry into my smoothies, never removing the green stem. Added greens to my smoothie :)

Sorry, too selfish to keep them and send them off to you :)

I just eat the tops along with the berries. I used to give organic tops to the iguanas.

I went to Tampa for the 4th and [obviously] didn't use my blender in the car ride over so I just popped strawberries (with tops) in my mouth. I've always been anti-waste and raw foods are only proving to accentuate this. Good to know that they actually have nutritional value.

I've also made tea with them. I know... not raw, but I used to save them and make a strawberry leaf/raspberry leaf tea to balance me out every month.

So is that what strawberry leaves are? I thought they were the ones on the plant. Do you know if those work for "strawberry leaf" to add to tea too?

I don't know what is sold in stores. I have heard that raspberry leaf isn't the berry plant leaves but a different plant. I don't know for sure though. I always bought the raspberry leaf part, which is the part that is balancing for women. The strawberry was added because I like it and they go well together.

i saw there is strawberry leaf in "pregnancy" tea, so that's why I wondered. I got some to put in "women's tonic" tea mix.

I thought they had nutritional value! I started to eat them in my first green smoothie and my mom was like "EW OMG ARE YOU GOING TO EAT THAT" and it scared me so I threw them away... :(

But not next time!

You should say that same exact line back to your mom next time you see her eating a donut or something like that.
