Due to increasing symptoms ranging from sluggish thyroid to bloating to neck pain, and a recent strong metal taste in my mouth, I've decided to have my one filling removed and replaced. So far all of the local dentists that advertise "biological" dentistry in the area don't use rubber dams and won't, even on request. Does this seem odd to anyone? One said their concern is that some mercury dust can get trapped underneath it. Hmmmm.
My questions for the group is- what has been your personal experience with removal and replacement of an amalgam filling? What safety protocol did you ensure was used for the procedure? Did you feel immediate relief of any sort? Did any of you feel worse afterward? Would you do anything differently, and do you have any advice you feel is vital for someone considering this procedure?
I had a load of mercury fillings taken out, including a huge root canal filling with mercury on top.
The dentists used rubber dam, high volume suction and low drill speed, and maybe cooling as well (can't remember), along with air filtration. I had no noticable adverse side effects.
I did not feel any better until the last one was removed. However, a number of the teeth had secondary infections under them which could also explain why I felt better.
Still, I am glad to be rid of my mercury, and know that it has been safely disposed of! The dentist I used was nto so good at replacing composites, several of them failed during installation, so it is very important the dentists is effective with using these materials.
The only advice I can give is to get all the information first, and find the right person to do the job.
I guess this depends what you think your health is worth and what your income is. It cost me about 2500 pounds to replace my 13 mercury fillings and place a crown and biocomaptible root canal.
I think most people have around 4 fillings so the costs should be less than 400 pounds for the average person. The best money you could ever spend IMO.
What timing! I just had all four of my remaining amalgams removed TODAY! I did it because we're going to try and conceive soon, and I read that the mercury can get into breast milk, so out they came today. So far so good :)
mercury has a half life of 18 years (I think that's in nerve tissue?), so it takes a long time to shift most of the retained load - I think only chelation therapy can reduce this
fortunately the womb is rebuilt each month - so there are probably deminishing returns once you pass a month after removal
Personally, I've been told I don't have any mercury in my female parts. Unfortunately, I've been told I do have it in many other parts (excluding my brain as well). Why the heck do we or our parents ever fall for mercury? Didn't they tell us as children never to play with it? Couldn't all the adults, especially the dentists abide? They couldn't be THAT stupid. Could they? I've never have any children that ever had mercury implanted. Children are too precious for that.
Don't you know they are called SILVER fillings? Mercury?? whoever got the idea that silver fillings have MERCURY In them? Wasn't the cover up good enough?????? ! I think most people have no idea there is mercury in "silver" fillings.
