Give it to me Raw - Raw Food Community

There are hundreds of raw vegan sites - most are too far "left" or too far "right" when it comes to posing a simple question...like supplements...I am hoping you guys can help...Everyone here appears to be "normal"...:)

As a raw, vegan athlete I can sure use some help - not so much for performance enhancement (but that would be cool), but just overall well being...Let's face it between life, work, kids, etc. sometimes it is not always easy to eat "right"...we (raw vegans) do it better than most, but one can only eat so many nuts and "bars" while putting around town running errands...

Anyway...do you guys engage in the supplement war? If so, which ones do you find helpful, if any? Also, does anyone take probiotics on a regular basis? If so, which ones?

Thanks for listening!

Peace

Welcome. :D

One thing, if you end up taking supplements, keep muscle testing them as time goes by. You can even test the dosage that your body needs. I have seein at my clinic where people were doing excellent with the supplements they were taking, but as their body started to rebuild itself and they changed their eating/living/emo habits they would start to have negative reactions or test negative for them (because they didn't need them anymore).

But one example for myself:
I needed more essentail fatty acids in my diet and I needed to supplement (my blood cells were NOT happy with me!). So I checked myself for cod liver oil (we use Nordic Naturals brand) and I tested negative. So then I tested for Genestra's Multi-EFA capsules (the efa's come from cold-pressed seed oils/non fish sources) and I got positive for it. So apparently my body likes the cold pressed seed oils v/s the fish oils. But we have had other clients whose body required the fish oils insetad. Everyone is different so it's always good to test.

Some plant foods have more nutrients then others so if you are not growing your own food in highly nutritious soil, and are either depleted or doing demanding work, it may be advantageous to "supplement" with foods that naturally suck up and create more nutrients (and give YOU more nutrients) from the ground (i.e. superfoods). I've been quite impressed with the HealthForce products, as well as the owner (who I met and listened to his lectures at the Raw Spirit Fest (Jameth Sheridan) ). His products are all raw, vegan, and grown in maximum nutritious soil. He's put a lot of intense study and work into creating the best, most potent product on the market. Also a very ethical, environment friendly company.

I take APEX Vegan Multivitamin. I also take their Super Antioxidant. I really love the antioxidant I have been taking them for several months (before going raw) I am think that I may not need them so much anymore, so I will probably stop once I run out of this bottle, you know since I am actually getting antioxidants in my food now. I love the multi though. I probably won't stop taking it. It has calcium and a lot of b12, I am sure eventually I won't need it but for now until I am sure I am getting everything I need in my diet, I will stick with the vitamins!

As far as bars go have you seen Ani Phyo's Smart Monkey Bars?? I haven't tried them, but apparently they are raw.

I bought a couple boxes of the "Raw Revolution" bars (rawindulgence.com). Tasted addictively amazing, but I'm not sure about the food combining . . . seemed to cause a little bloating . . . good for transitioning maybe, but I'd go more simple/mono long term . . .

I take far too many supplements.... I seriously carry around a baggy full of them all and it's drives me insane, I'm trying to get to the point where I don't have to take so many anymore but as of now, I need to. The ones I take everyday are: pro-biotics, digestive enzymes, vitamin d, vitamin b-12, fish or borage oil, triphala, and when I remember... things like l-tyrosene, chromium, magnesium, etc.

I am on tons of suppliments too.You have my understanding. I have a time taking them. You inspire me. I am taking alot of the same ones. I am sorry you have had to take them but it is nice to know I am not alone. here is hoping some day you don't need the suppliments. ;-)
Thank you,
Mallory

I do not worry too much about them. I like my diet. I like the way my food tastes. Colloidal Silver is one thing I use once in a while, and the only time I may use an enzyme supplement is with targeted enzyme deficiencies (ie- lactase if I eat cheese, protease if I eat fish). It seems that I use them only with animal products, even if those products are raw (they usually are).

Perhaps I should just give up animal products? It could be the next step.

Not sure if you've heard of David Hudson or not (done lots of research with ORMUS), but he claims that "colloidal" is a general term and that you can't really know how much of the silver is colloidal and how much is metallic (i.e. you could be getting some metal, which he claims is toxic, in along with the colloids). I haven't investigated further, but something to consider . . .

no just fresh ripe raw whole organic fruits and shoots one at time when hungry till full this gives you a balance that requires no supplementation supplements only cause you to have more of one thing than another out of balance with what comes fresh and whole and loves us back

I dont use any supplements with my regular diet mainly whole fruit

I eat some super foods..but dont take vitamins etc

When fasting I add in the E3 Live, Spirulina and Hemp Protein-- again if I am training hard, I use the hemp.

Hemp powder might be useful for you as an athlete??

But genrally I think a raw diet is enough.. but.. not much harm done with high quality vegan supplements..I just dont find them necessary unless fasting.

Hope that made some sense!!
