As many of you probably already know, quinoa is a whole protein - meaning it contains all 8 essential amino acids which means the body doesn't have to pool any from it's own resources in order to build itself.
I've only recently started eating this baby full-time, and I must say, it's excellent stuff. You can make it so quickly, and it tastes pretty damn good. Also, as a person that likes to visit the gym, this could very well be my saviour from high protein animal alternatives. This and a lot of legumes, seeds and green leafy salads...
I currently eat quinoa with almond milk and honey, occassionally adding dates or dried fruits. I haven't tried the savoury route yet... is it good?
What do you guys think of quinoa and do you know of any other plant sources that contain all 8 essential amino acids? Do you have any recipes that you'd like to share?
I myself love quinoa, but I haven't eaten it since going raw. I just bought some at the store and tried to sprout it, but it didn't turn out so well and it started to go bad. So what do you do - just soak it?
I personally love savory quinoa - I would eat it with garlic, thyme, rosemary, basil, coriander (but not all at once of course!). But like I said earlier, haven't tried it raw...
My biology teacher in high school was always going on about how adding rice to peas made a complete protein, but other than that I have no idea!
I'm curious how you prepared your quinoa as well. I love that stuff but I haven't eaten in since going raw. It sounds amazing with almond milk and honey!! I'm sure it can't be that hard to sprout.
Quinoa tastes pretty goood. It may be the most health supportive grain. What are those green things you have in it? Mint? Basil? Dill? Anyway. I used to get paid well to prepare quinoa for people, but I'm not posting a recipe here, as it was cooked, and I don't really want to widely support cooking. Is your honey unheated and unfiltered? Is it ever warmed? Who makes your almond milk? Are they sprouted? Cultured? Can they be? Are your dates steamed? Are they ripe? Are the fruits sulphured? Sorry if I'm acting mean. But yeah, savory used to taste very good.
Sorry guys, it's not my own creation in that photo - I wish it was. Like I said, I haven't managed to try it savoury yet and I think that I can see thyme in that.
As for the rawness, well, only partially raw. I cook the quinoa at the moment although I'm really hoping that someone will come and give instructions on how to get the best sprouted quinoa. The honey is not raw honey and the almond milk is. The other add-ons are all raw. Me = not 100% raw, yet.
edamame beans (baby soya beans) also have all 8 as well and are easy to digest, they come frozen and you can just thaw and eat they do not have the negative associations of processed soya.
Can organic edamame be bought that isn't frozen? Is it easy to grow? How long does it take? Where's the best place to get seeds? I eat edamame and then want rice with it. How do you like your edamame Jane?
I use hemp or chia seeds everyday with fruit. What about amaranth?
What flavors in addition to chocolate does the sunwarrior rice come in? Thank you.
I still eat this cooked...Typically make it with veggie broth and then mix it with a tahini/lemon mix or (yes it sounds weird) guac. My BFF makes this yummy cream mix with cucumbers (almost like raita) that also tastes really good with it.
