Give it to me Raw - Raw Food Community

my husband is a mostly raw vegan, who says he will never go fully raw. I think part of this is because hes really happy where he is with food, but partly because he hasnt done as much research on raw as I have, and hes no one to be convinced by word of mouth. anyway last night I was talking to him about certain things I recenty learned about long chain fatty acids and digestion, things like that, and somewhere he started talking about how benificial cooked soup is. I was explaining to him from what I knew about what happens to any food when its cooked, and how it can out way the benifits of it, but I didnt have enough information to back up what I was saying, so my question is, can anyone give me any more information on this subject? thanks so much, sorry for such a long post.

did he say what the benefits are from cooked soup? then we can answer those things Jenny

well he said that when you make soup all the nutrients from the vegetables stay in the water and there for the only ones that are lost are some that die in the processes but that overall your getting vitamins from certain vegetables that you cannot get from them if they are raw and you are getting the fiber as well and all of this is good for those who dont digest nutrients well enough. hes a big fan of DR, JoelFurmans book Eat To Live, wich is based on a mostly raw vegan diet.

Yes, this is a common thing said about cooked soup. It's true you do get some good nutrition and in the realm of cooked food, it's probably one of the best foods. But, you don't get the 'lifeforce' that raw soup can provide and its still easy to digest as it is blended.

Soup is one of my favourite raw foods and I've just had one. Simple, warm, tasty, alive and very easy to digest.

his argument would be that when you blend it you lose the most of the fiber content. what do you mean by life force?

You have all the fiber when you blend and Suvine makes some good points below. All animals eat their food raw except humans. You could be wasting your time trying to argue the points with your husband. Better to just let him do what he does and you go on with your raw prep. Much can be accomplished through quiet observation.

true, but i'm not trying to really argue with my husband so much than rather learn more myself and tell him what i've learned. considering i'm pregnant and just switching to raw again, I know that my digestive system is very sluggish and I can become deficient in nutrients. I only have access to green juice once a week right now, because I cannot afford a juicer yet and I cant afford to buy all organic either. he likes hearing the new things I learn, hes glad that I am doing all the researching I can, because knowledge is very important to him.

do you recommend any books?

How bout a hand cranked wheatgrass juicer and growing your own? I know that's not soup, but it's loaded with minerals.

Do you have a blender? Make a soup with dulse seaweed and collard greens.

There are inexpensive juicers or Craigslist and in some drugstores. Post your needs on my 'barter' group here. Maybe someone has an old one that works (but got a big new one) and they might send it just for the cost of shipping (so it won't be taking up space in a small apartment).

I'll have to look into finding where I can get what you need to grow your own wheatgrass, I dont live in an area where raw food beside produce is readily available. I dont even know where to get a wheatgrass juicer, and right now I cannot afford nor do I have the means of purchasing things online. I do have a blender though so that soup Idea is really great. I go to Craigslist all the time, the last person who had a juicer for sale lived 3 hours away, and I cannot afford the gas to go that far. thank you so much for all your help and suggestions.

Hi Watermelon, I have an ebook 'Raw Lunchbox' -Quick and Easy Raw Recipes For Busy People. Take a look at www.rawlifestyle.co.uk T
There are easy to make raw lunch recipes that don't take much time to make.

You might want to make contact with other women who have been through raw pregnancy to help you with nutritional information.

If you have a blender, you can make juices by blending some greens with a little apple and lemon and then straining the mixture. I do this most of the time.

Check out the www.thegardendiet.com as Jinjee has given birth to several children on raw. Take good care of yourself.

thank you for the raw lunch box website, and for the tip about blending greens, I never thought of that but it sounds simple enough. there are no raw foodist in my area what so ever never mind a raw woman whos had raw pregnancies but I reaserch everyday to see if I can find more and more about nutrition for raw pregnancy and have actually been following jinjee's diet when she was pregnant, but with some of my own additions, along with an organic vegan prenatal, and superfood. thank you so much for your comment. take care =)

do you know the names of these books I'd like to check them out. I understand what cooking does to most foods, but I also know that steaming veggies is very different from having them in soup. I for one perfer raw myself, the reason i'm asking this is so that I can pass the information onto my husband. I need actual scientific information.
