Give it to me Raw - Raw Food Community

Well, the title says it all... I am just wondering what time you choose to quit eating for the day? Is it early afternoon? evening? whenever? And what are your experiences with this if you consciously choose a specific time that you stop eating?

Thanks for any input!

According to strict primal diet we're supposed to wake up in the middle of the night and grab a snack. I'm not strict, I practically never do it.

Wow, I couldn't imagine getting up in the middle of the night to eat! It would seem like such a chore. So, do you eat a snack before bed then?

Not usually right before. We're supposed to put a 1/2 cup of raw milk or a whole egg or two on our night-tables and eat that about five hours after our last meal, set an alarm. I do it sometimes. I don't seem to be as sensitive as many of the people I met on the diet, either that or I just don't care about that part yet. When I do it I don't use an alarm usually.

My last meal of the day is usually around 5 or 6pm. Nothing past six. I wake up with lots more energy and, in my opinion, much more connected to my body when I stop eating around that time. Before, when my dinner hours would vary between 7:30-9pm, you couldn't pry me out of bed with a crowbar when the alarm went off at 6:30am because I was so sluggish and groggy. Now, I'm up by 4:30am most mornings, alert, energetic and refreshed. I'm guessing its because my digestive system has more than enough time to digest the final meal and rest before I go to sleep. With digestion out of the way, my body can focus on cleansing, elimination and repair.

On SADvegan I could not wake up almost at all ever, except for getting up for work, and rarely not for that either. It didn't matter how infrequently I ate, I just didn't digest most of it, the food just sad in my digestive system and made me nauseas. On macrovegan I could eat however it fit into my schedule, and sleep whenever I needed to and always got up on time. Raw, lots of energy, veg have to stop eating earlier. pd no problems digesting, can eat anytime the stomach's been empty, like a bf'd baby.

I rarely eat after 7 in the evening, and never later than 8. If I do I find that I wake in the night, which results in an unproductive day at the office (or even worse, a wasted day at the weekend!).

I usually have a smoothie around 4pm and stop, although I've started running recently and my body seems to think I need 1200 extra calories or so for the 2 miles I jog! I've been hungry constantly. I feel so much better stopping at 4, though.

I found it difficult in Europe to have any kind of social interaction with this schedule, though. Even in New York, it seems that people eat so late. Fortunately, I live in Wisconsin, and the potlucks end early. :-)

my schedule is all over the place so it really depends when i get off work. if i'm at home for the day i'll eat around 4 or 5 but if i'm working or busy sometimes it gets pushed to between 6 and 8. i really don't notice a difference the next morning either way.

I tend to eat an hour or so before bed but in small quantity, I usually go to bed about 12 o'clock. It seems that no one eats at late hours, is this a bad habit?

eh, it depends. sometimes I'll stop at around one in the afternoon if i'm not hungry, otherwise, nothing past 6 in the evening since i'll wake up the next morning feeling weighed down and sluggish. :C

Interesting... I guess it just seems that most people do what feels best to them and what works best for their bodies. I have been trying not to eat past 7pm lately... but it seems I get a strong craving for sugar later on around 8-9pm and I was making raw ice cream - but I have been trying to hold back from that too! I think it's something worth paying attention to. Thanks for all of your comments!

getting up in the middle of the night is not a good idea. your digestive system needs times to relax and process all of its food. also when you are sleeping the digestive system slows down and can not digest as proficently. if you eat to much before you go to bed or during the night you can get terrible digestive problems or constipation issues.
