So my parents made me read this article in a news paper. It was about a family on a raw vegan diet, and the chicks kids had gotten holes in their teeth and were stick thin...and they all craved dairy.
So it looks like raw made them ill.
They ate loads of fruit, veg and seeds and took b12 and d supplements, yet they were sick....
I can't find an expination for my parents, I can't even find one to give to myself...
Wow, I'm so mad about this, great idea about writing in Chris, I am off to do that. Please join me! I really think people need to know about how amazing raw food is, we should be getting this out to as many people as possible.
A great convincer of vegan doubters is the DVD film "Eating". Everyone in the film are Doctors including the patients so the film has loads of credibility. You can order the film for about $12 from them at http://www.ravediet.com. It's not a Raw Food film, it is mainly about the effects of Animal Protein on us humans. They also have a new film about curing Cancer which I have not seen, yet looks really good.
Sit 'em down for a hour and 10 minutes to watch "Eating". They will forget they ever read that one article.
Dr. Campbell, the author of "The China Study" is in the film "Eating". The film was made while he was still working on the book, but he talks about his preliminary findings.
Raw milk is great. Ok, I mean, it tastes good. Many on here would say milk is terrible no matter what. I think raw is better than YUCK store bought!! I switched to raw milk for my family, a few years ago, but it grossed my husband out. Then I got raw goat milk, and he said he could taste the "goaty" flavor!! LOL Oh well, now I just don't buy milk at all( except the other week I made ice cream with raw milk and raw eggs from our own really free range happy chickens), and if he wants it he has to mix up some powdered.
When people sell shares of cows and give their milk away raw, its gotta be clean, because if they get in trouble from someone getting sick, its gonna be big trouble. If you can get raw milk, go for it. Also try juicing greens and give your parents articles about greens and the calcium in them. I think Victoria used dandelion.
Rawzi, do you ever make homemade ice cream with raw milk and eggs, and if so, what sweetener do you use?
Sorry if I'm repeating anything, I haven't time to read this whole thread today. Sounds interesting, so I'll read it later.
Good luck!
You can get calcium from sesame seeds and tahini, so perhaps try making some recipes from those ingredients. I don't mind if my tahini isn't always raw, because it is difficult to get where I am. I also have a little bit of soy milk when I can't be bothered making Almond Mylk and for fortified B12, calcium and other things.
I suggest reading The Vegan Sourcebook by Joanne Stepaniak, which has an absolutely excellent section on each of the vitamins and minerals and where you can source vegan alternatives. It would also be good for your parents to read so they can understand the quantities of each vitamin and mineral in plants. You might also find the author's website useful, as there are several articles about talking to parents about going vegan, which I'm sure you could apply to being raw too: http://www.vegsource.com/jo/
I wouldn't trust it. It seems pretty unlikely to me that children raised on a vegan diet would "crave" dairy. The only way I could see this happening was if the kids had transitioned to a vegan diet recently or were eating dairy often when out of the house. In either case, they wouldn't be very appropriate examples of children on the raw vegan diet.
Good point the rest of us missed Amie. They wouldn't miss dairy if their parents never told them dairy was good or if their parents hadn't given it to them before. They exposed themselves with this lie.
