Give it to me Raw - Raw Food Community

since starting raw in March this year, I've had food poisoning TWICE. I've never had it before, and wasn't sick like this since at least my early teens- over 15 years.

has anyone else had this occur more frequently with raw foods? do you know what caused it? how to avoid it?

the first day I planned to start on 80-90% raw in March, I had to eat a restaurant meal (salad) and got extremely sick for the next two days. It set back my raw ambitions for a couple weeks. :)

now, I've been 99% raw for about 2 months, and got mild food poisoning last night. Can you get it from a banana or grapes? I didn't have much food in the twelve hours prior to getting sick (at 3am). It seems extremely unlikely that some raisins, nuts, dried apricots, or a larabar caused it- the other foods I had. I feel fine now, but I'm afraid to touch the $6 worth of new organic grapes in my fridge...I only had about 4 of them last night.

any advice and suggestions would be much appreciated.

thanks...the hydrogen peroxide is an idea I hadn't heard of before. I know where I can get some locally, I think.

I tend to eat lots of nuts and dried fruits- i've always liked them together, and eat them everyday. it might be that my tolerances are changing though with the rest of everything being raw. I'll watch that.

and i do the apple cider vinegar- though as a salad dressing. I'll try drinking it next time I feel sick. thanks.

I believes this helps relieve strept throat and h pylori infection.

thinking about this further, it sounds awful tasting. is the proportion 1:10 or 1:2 or ?

for relieving ulcers (h pylori), i know some people who drink it and swear by it, but i personally haven't used it for that, so i don't know the ratio. i believe it is about 1:10

for sore throat (as i ate a conventional salad w/ some bad fish at my family's once & it felt like a bad strep) i mix:
"Drinking a mixture of 4 ounces warm good mineral water, 1 - 2 tablespoons raw unpasteurized apple cider vinegar, 2 - 3 tablespoons fresh raw lemon juice, and 2 - 4 tablespoons unheated honey several times daily usually relieves sore throat in minutes and keeps the symptoms relatively unnoticeable."
drink it down each morning if I wake up with a sore throat. relieves it a lot.

might be good to carry this to use as i dressing next time you go to a restaurant and eat their salad. it helps you absorb the minerals from the salad and break down the vegetable fiber anyway.

Ooo.. that sounds like it could taste good. I've just taken the apple cider down in a shot glass, followed with some water.
