Hair growth/loss

Hello everyone!

I have a question. I have a history of damaging my hair, but nothing did the most damage as a few years ago when I was a nanny and got some lice from the kids...stupidly and out of complete hysteria, I ended up using way too many chemicals on my scalp to get rid of them, and thus...my hair started to fall out soon afterwards - a lot of it was breakage, but a lot actually fell out.
It has been almost 3 years and it has not grown back how it used to. In actuality, it seems like it is getting thinner, and I do NOT want that to happen.

Is there anything I can do diet-wise to either make sure my hair does NOT fall out anymore, or anything that might make it grow back thicker? I have already decided to stop dying my hair, but other than that I'm not sure what else I can do.

Any specific ideas would be GREATLY appreciated :)

Wow, I can sympathize with you. I have a different reason for my hair loss-- I think. I think my main problem is stress. I have psoriasis mainly on my scalp. My hair has gotten thinner :( I have been using a few products, I use amla rosemary oil and pine tar shampoo. The only use the amla-rosemary oil a couple of nights a week because these are primarily for people of African descent (http://www.prettynatural-inc.com/index.php?p=product&id=73&...). Anyway, the woman who owns this company knows quite a bit about hair loss. Make sure you use a natural brush. I use a boar bristle brush and I don't brush my hair when it is wet.Rosemary reduces any inflamation and amla oil is rich in vitamin c. I know amla is popular in India. It seems to work ok, I am not bald and have no bald spots. You are lucky that it is breaking and not falling out at the root. As far as the diet goes: anything with vitamin B and C is good. Rosemary is good and I take a Biotin supplement for now. I don't know foods rich in Biotin. Hemp and protein rich foods I've heard are good as well. I have heard greens are the best all around. Greens seem to be the best for everything.
These are just things that I am doing. Believe me I feel your pain. Good Luck :)

what Biotin supplement do you take Toni?

I am taking it in capsule form. I think it is from the brand "Now". I would much rather use a liquid or powder. I think those are much better. I think it has helped--I just don't like taking pills. If anyone knows of a good Biotin supplement, please share.

Hi Lorra, hair loss is not fun... I have always had hair falling out so much and it drove me nuts to find it everywhere in the house : ) But since going raw and having vegetable green juice daily, MSM, biotin and silica I noticed a tremendous difference; it hardly falls out anymore (just a normal amount) and it grows so fast. I also wash my hair as little as possible and only with a 'natural' shampoo like Aubrey (for more info: http://www.aubrey-organics.com/spec_prods/normal_hair_cat.cfm)
Good luck, I really hope your problem will resolve.

Those chemicals could have soaked into your scalp or maybe even into your brain. If you don't clean it out you may more likely eventually get cancer in your brain. Your continued hairloss might be your body trying to push out those chemicals that you yourself put in. I think you need to clean your system out with appropriate food. Also, I recommend using your choice of aloe vera, coconut juice/cream and or whole raw egg on your hair, and no more commercial chemicals, shampoos, conditioners, etc. Applying olive oil could also strengthen your hair shafts.

Oh I have changed my diet completely, I am eating only raw - I just want to know if there is any specific foods I should be including that may specifically help this problem.
I have been only using all-natural shampoos/conditioners and maybe I will stop using hair spray though I use very little.

I lost loads of hair last year after fasting, it went on for months and i was most unhappy. MSM Powder a few times a day helped, have you read David Wolfe's Eating for Beauty? He has some good tips in there. I also drank nettle tea and that seemed to help...hope your hair feel better soon :)

Hmm, MSM is full of sulphur. When I added raw food with lots sulphur containing amino acids into my diet my eyebrows got thicker than they had been in many years and my hair got nicer. I cut down on those foods and the eyebrows lost a little of it. Doesn't MSM powder taste very bitter though? I used to try to take it.

Hi Rawzi - i usually put a teaspoon of MSM powder to a glass of water with freshly squeezed lemon juice from one lemon or a half of a lemon and i can't taste the bitterness. otherwise, i just can't handle the taste.

That must be why I have been craving eggs when my head was burning-- hrm...

I think msm is kind of sour, but I thought it was because it was paired with vitamin c. There are also sulfur rich foods like onions, cauliflower, broccoli, and Kale too. Maybe, this is why green drinks are so good for us.

Exercise has helped me alot. I think it got the blood flowing. I think sweating makes hair grow faster too. It helps me reduce the effects of stress.

I would recomend taking MSM twice a day, one teaspoon each time. If you don't like the taste just squeeze in some lemon juice. I make this every morning and I add about 10 drops of cell food and cell food with silica. I would also make sure you don't have any mineral deficiencies and would make sure you get plenty of silicon. I do this through diet (someone reccomended eating for beauty by david wolfe, and thats a great book) and I supplement with two things: cell food w/ silica and sun is shining. Sun is shining is fantastic and I add it to my green juice every day. The 2nd ingredient I believe is nettles, very high in silicon. I would also reccomend detoxing your body to make sure you release any chemicals that could be contributing to this problem. I reccomend adding zeolites to anyone trying to detox, especially specific harsh chemicals like you are dealing with. External treatments are fairly simply, don't use any harsh shampoos, only natural ones. I reccomend coconut oil treatments a few times a week to keep your hair healthy. Watch for new growth around your temples, that's where you can tell if what you are doing is working. Best of luck!
