Raw Food & Your THYROID..??

Hi everyone : )

So Ive been mostly vegan for most of my life and then in January of this year, while at the Optimum Health Institute, I discovered the power of a raw food diet. At the time, I was super sick and exhausted from Adrenal Failure and Hypothyroidism, after many years of stress... But after 1 week on wheatgrass, I felt better than I'd felt in 3 years!

So my question is -- can raw food heal Hypothyroidism?

Because there are many studies that show that RAW broccoli, kale, cabbage, spinach, yams, and a few other cruciferous veggies actually SUPPRESS the thyroid gland... Soy and all oils also do, except for extra virgin olive oil, and coconut oil -- which actually stimulates the gland..

I'm currently treating my Hypothyroidism with acupuncture, yoga and a prescribed medication called Armour from my Integrative Physician.. Im not into taking pills, but at least the Armour that I'm taking is the natural alternative (it's pretty much dried thyroid gland from pigs), as most people take a synthetic version.

Id like to get off the medication totally and Id like to know if there are other natural ways to heal myself...

I'd love to hear your thoughts, input....

Thanx!

Jade

Um, Im still a beginner so dont know all the names of the poses, but any of them that compress the neck or touch the forehead to the knee and such, these all stimulate the thyroid and other parts of the endocrine system. I was in a kundalini class the other day, and we focused the whole class on kriyas that heal our kidneys and thus our adrenls, but I dont know the names for them.. (sorry i couldnt be more helpful)

I don't know the Sanskrit name for this thyroid asana, but: shoulder stand? I think one must not hold it too long though if thy have certain problems in upper spine/neck. Of course best practiced properly and along with complementary asanas, which I'm sure must be the other ones here that you 'guys' listed.

I used Kelp and coconut oil to get my thyroid score from 2.75 down to about 1.7

Yes coconuts are great! Extra virgin coconut oil is the ONLY oil that not only does not suppress the thyroid gland, but actually STIMULATES it! : )

kelp also has iodide and is awesome thyroid food--I learned all this stuff after my thyroid was taken, go figure, ha ha...with a d, Jadetruth, not iodine :)

ok, does anyone know anything about this? I was at the health food/supplement store, and the lady there said that the people in town that do muscle testing or whatever its called, said that WOMEN never test that their bodies want Kelp, and they think its because its because kelp is a male thing? I can't quite say it the way they said it. They meant they think its incompatible to women, because its a male species or something like that.

Has anyone heard anything about that?

I'm just curious. I'm not putting all my stock in that, because the dr. at the Tree told me to use Kelp.

I'm thinking if there's truth in what she said, then...it's because women probably are not generally as comfortable with their own power so they might make anti-bodies to the iodine in the kelp. Might I suggest NAET treatments for iodine and for kelp if you've had bad reactions to it. Then, go ahead and use the kelp the way the tree of life doctor told you.

I've never NOTICED bad reactions, that is just what someone at the health food store told me. Maybe that means I need to get in touch with my own power!

A healthfood store owner told me everyone tests that their body doesn't want dairy, but everybody's body wants soy. She muscle tested me and my body said it wanted dairy but refused soy. She couldn't believe it. She asked if I would let her test me the next day, as she had never seen somebody's body say it wants dairy. She tested me again the next day, and the same things happened again. She found it hard to accept two days in a row, but knew she was testing me right, and there's no cheating, I don't think there's a way for a body to lie on a test. I was vegan, and did not start eating dairy for many years after anyway. I only asked her to test me cause it seemed like soy and wheat were making me sick, which didn't make a lot of sense to me, cause they didn't have hormones, vaccines or antibiotics pumped into them. There are individual differences. Even if most women's bodies don't want kelp, I feel there has to be a few somewhere whose body wants it. Allow yourself to be yourself. You're beautiful.

Well Lulu and Jade truth, I guess that explains why for years I had never had any apparent thyroid problems. I used to eat l most of my diet raw wild coconut, many different seaweeds regularly, and the little oil I used was olive. When I changed to a SAD vegan diet, my thyroid seemed to get severely depressed. I went to a doctor and confirmed my thyroid levels were low.
