Give it to me Raw

Stephanie

Starving?

So I'm pretty new to the Raw Diet, and without the bread and meats I'm used to eating on a regular basis, I'm finding myself feeling famished at certain points throughout the day. I work in casting for a production company, so the hours can be very long and unpredictable often with very little break time, so I don't have time to prepare stuff in the office or to run out and buy something.

I'll eat breakfast at home and than have a salad for lunch. I snack on fruits, veggies, and smoothies, that I bring in, but by day's end, I'm ravenous! Any suggestions on how I can stay more sustained? I'm sure this will get better with time, as I get more used to my new diet, but any tips would be great!

i continue snacking all the way up until dinner. i only eat fruit until dinner, which is also sometimes fruit as well, but that's just my preference (the truth is i'm a fruit addict and i'm in love with it). i usually come home really ravenous (this has been diminishing since i've gone raw, though) and if i don't eat a snack BEFORE i start thinking about what to make for dinner or begin eating something right away, i'll inhale everything in sight. so i eat a snack right when i get home (usually a banana), change into my pjs, relax a little, check email, and then go and prepare a spinach salad or a fruit salad or something. drinking a juice or some tea or lemon water a little while before you eat (30 mins.) is also helpful and staying hydrated during the day can also help you from feeling so hungry because a lot of the time we just confuse thirst for hunger. if i don't take a little while to soothe my hunger before i make a bigger meal, like i said, i'll seriously inhale everything in sight and then wonder...."why the hell did i just eat all that?" haha. it's usually things i don't even like.

one thing that you shouldn't expect to still feel while on a raw diet is that feeling of being stuffed, i've learned. which, even if you didn't think you were addicted to that feeling before, it can be interesting to see how much you miss it when it's gone. it takes getting used to, but once you are, you get hooked on that feeling of lightness and you'll feel very uncomfortable and full of regret if you do go and stuff yourself silly!

just give it some time, and good luck!

I have this raw almond/cashew/pecan/walnut butter that I bought yesterday and keep at my desk. .

Spread onto apples it makes a pretty good midday snack.

Also, maybe try making and bringing in some raw sushi. You can buy raw Nori (the seaweed) and will need one of those little wood sushi rolling mats.

The last one I made had this sunflower/dill spread(ground in food processor), celery and cucumber.
