Hmm, raw food? I went to Spain in August for a few weeks and ate what I 'felt' like, and I was quite disorientated so that was a lot of pasta. I'm still gradually introducing more raw in my diet, mostly a green smoothie every other morning. It's going good, I'm taking it easy.
I've been reading a lot of Arthur Miller and Eckhart Tolle, nothing more obscure at the moment. I'm trying to find some nice salad dressings, have you bought many raw recipie books? Any you recommend if you have? What's the second job? How's it going?
sorry i vanished! just got back from moving a friend to New Haven, gonna make tomorrow's salad and crash. :-) I'll write you a nice long answer tomorrow.
Oh I'd love some suggestions!
That book is great she has a blog as well, it's about spirituality and recovering a sense of spiritual self from the centuries of dogma. I found it through galadarling.com which you may like if you haven't heard of her yet. (?)
Ah, but I've been to Peru and back by now! You can see a Machu Picchu shots in my photo album - actually, my profile pic is from some of the ruins along the Inca Trail.
Staying raw down there totally didn't happen. Basically, whenever there was a raw vegan option (like a fresh fruit smoothie, or a beet salad, something like that) I went for it, but especially on the trail, I just didn't sweat it - I stayed vegetarian as always, and spent my time enjoying the hike and the people and the travel rather than worrying about food. Then I came home and danced around the kitchen after my first sip of green smoothie in two weeks. :-)
I'm thinking Asia too, Japan in particular, it seems like a country with such variety - although the MA is a two-year degree, so who knows how I'll feel two years from now. I lived in Tel Aviv for two years after college and now, after almost two years back in the States, I'm really antsy for another long-term stay somewhere totally different - so I know there's an expensive plane ticket in my future.
Boulder is an amazing city!!! The people are full of life and vitality and the mountains are so beautiful!!! Being raw is not too bad here, but it isn't amazing either (I'm from northern california though, and it is alot easier to be raw there, so maybe I'm just spoiled in comparison!)
But the skiing and outdoor activities are to die for!!! Such charming city with beautiful mountains and amazing people! I am probably going back to Northern California but I sure will miss Boulder for it's charm and character!!! And I LOVE CU!!! So if that is where you were going to go for Grad school I fully recommend it, the quality of life here in Boulder is absolutley incredible and the campus is also so gorgeous! Good luck with everything!!! Hope this helped don't hesitate to ask any more questions! I'd love to help!
hi kelsey, and thanks! yeah, on the one hand it's a degree/certification that can open the whole world to you, but on the other hand it's so specific that it might be kinda narrow. I definitely want to use it to travel - gotta take advantage of English being the lingua franca while it still is. :-)
Not a problem =] I had wondered about it too, and would have been interested in a response. But then again, like you said, I had found recipes for various nut milks, as well as coconut cream. I'm sure, if you found a source to purchase raw soy beans, you could really make your own soy milk too.
Did anyone comment you back on your soy milk question in Raw BE-ginners? I have a feeling it's a no-no, since it's processed and all. Just wondering. Thank you!!! =]
Hey :) Yes, I love reading. Right now I can't put down the Twilight saga by Stephanie Meyer - have you read it? It's addicting. It's not as good as Harry Potter, but it's a lot of fun to read.
I also love the Dark Materials trilogy. I read a lot of Tamora Pierce's books growing up, and I'll admit that I still read the Song of the Lioness quartet and Protector of the Small series by her every now and then. The Abhorsen trilogy by Garth Nix is also quite good in the fantasy genre. Jacqueline Carey is also an AMAZING fantasy writer, she structures her sentences lyrically so they read like music for the eyes. But her books really push moral and religious boundaries, so to speak, so they're not for the faint of heart. ;) I've been wanting to read the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe - can you believe I haven't read it yet? I just finished reading Alice in Wonderland (another children's classic) and that was really fun too. The novel "Wicked" (that the play was based on) is also on my future reading list.
Movies... well you HAVE to watch Some Like it Hot - it's one of the funniest films I've ever seen. It's my personal favourite thus far. Kinky Boots is another really great movie, though it's quite recent. And of course anything with Audrey Hepburn is classic. Peyton Place is also fantastic... and ther are so many others who's names escape me right now. I'll get back to you with more movies when I think of them ;)
Oh,sorry are you in the US? I read it as England. lol
One quick thing-as for scholarships, mine have been for GPA. So, that really does help sometimes.
Grants-I am getting one because the economy is so bad in Michigan they are paying people to get degrees! Soo...move to Michigan? :P
Yeah, I don't regret extra class, or my degree one bit-although it was definitely the wrong one for me! I have learned a lot, and I wouldn't trade my crazy life for anything! I'm just happy to have rediscovered my passion for nutrition at all-better late than never!
As for loans-they are all pretty much the same-try and get the lowest rate and lock it in by consolidating it into one-if you can. Not sure if your rates changes all the time like they do here, but in the US it is constantly changing.
I have a big thing against borrowing $$, so if you get more than you need I recommend saving it so you can pay it back later, and not using your extra loan $$ to pay for other things-it will bite you in the butt later, trust me!! Pay any debts off as soon as possible-or you will be a slave to them the rest of your life!
And I also recommend if you get Sallie Mae (and I say please dont! lol) they are all outsourced and have horrible customer service-but, ask for the US branch so that they actually speak English. As soon as I was transferred to people who speak my language-the issues were resolved much quicker.
I have no problem with people from other countries-but when I am trying to get a simple question answered and it takes an hour and nothing is resolved-I would like to speak to someone who knows what is going on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks! Nice to meet you also! I'm from Livonia, MI actually which is right by Farmington Hills. I still live in the general area.
I love that quote too-saw it as a teenager on a billboard and it stuck with me ever since :) Your quote is great too lol
I already spent way too much $$ on college (paying for it myself) on a bachelors degree (with way more classes than I needed to graduate, so almost two degrees) and I have a certification in Video production...so I'm actually getting a grant to study nutrition...and so I'm limited where I can go. I'm looking at just a basic nutrition degree from a local community college-maybe an associates since I already have a bachelors-or maybe a 2nd degree. I am meeting with an advisor in Sept. and I'll let you know more about the program I choose if you are interested!
And I am taking the Alissa Cohen class tomorrow-so check out my blog on www.michiganrawfood.com as I'm sure I'll be updating about my experience on that blog!
For me It really doesn't matter where I write, I like to be alone and I write best when its about something that I'm really passionate about like civil rights or God, or living a full life. I love writing about my ideas and perceptions of the world. Id really like to get into poetry more and eventually speeches. I love Dr.King's speeches, I think there fantastic! I hope that one day my words will effect change in this world.
I love apples too! I made a "killer-Raw-Apple-Pie" last week, with different kind of apples in it. It was so good I can't stop thinking about it. The panda-bear in the pic is soooo cute! Did you take the picture yourself?

Are you coming up on your last year of school?
