Hey man, how is it in HI? I had to come to FL to take care of some things and couldn't make it, I have been without a phone for weeks, and didn't have your number, but whats the blog? hope your well man.
hey man, well im off to hawaii tomorrow morning so i hope you have a great time and learn more about permaculture! Eat all you can and enjoy everything tropical, fruit lovers paradise has to offer, i know i will! Be safe and maybe i'll see you around!
I am doing GREAT! I bet you are counting down the days. Yes, sure we should meet up when you are here. The next raw luck is on the 2nd Sat. of Feb. I will make time to go on an adventure with you.
hey man, just wondering where you found that austria permaculture eco village, like what were you searching for or was it under a different site? i leave in a week from tomorrow! i am pumped. you will be there in 2 weeks right, hawaii here we come!!!
So Todd let me know you guys will be on the Big I soon. I'm going this Thursday and will be on the Puna side for a bit, so maybe I will see you there. If you've got any questions about your visit, ask away, I was there about a month ago and discovered some great places!
The farmer said she would graft it somehow allowing it to produce quicker. maybe in 8 years. I am afraid of doing a lot of work on it and the trees die like she was saying. It's almost time to start filming. Remember this is the type of Dragonfruit completely unknown to the US that doesn't even have a name of it's own. I don't have the common ones to compare them to though.
A big strom just passed. The sun came out today for the first time in at least a week. I went to the beach to catch some waves and get some sun at the same time. I will be making a video later today on an undiscovered variety of dragonfruit. Pictures won't be enough. I want to show more and talk about it too. More sun expected tomorrow, then back to more rain Monday. I talked to a farmer about the Durian seeds. She said a lot of them will not reach maturity, and if they did, the first crop is not expected for 20 years. Bummer
Life is Great, but will be even better in 2 weeks! I am super pumped! I bet you are pretty excited too. How long are you going to be gone for? I come back end of feb. but i know i will be back again real soon, I have a wedding i am attending in the summer so maybe after that but i can't wait for the fruit!
wow thats awesome!! =D i went raw overnight after reading a book on how unhealthy cooked food is so that pretty much freaked me out. lol. i'm glad it did tho because it's one of the best decisions i've ever made. is you're family raw as well?? =D
I think thats a great idea to check out the permaculture farms. I also want to check out the biodynamic ones. There's only a few i think. Anyway I think well have no trouble wild foraging and camping during that time. I'm actually looking forward to that. There is so much we can do on the islands, so much fun to be had.

Banana Leaf and Ti Leaf was said to be eaten here regularly by natives. They are tough like Kale, but I have gotten used to them. I climbed to the top of Kuli'ou'ou Ridge and started chewing on Ti Leaves once. Swallowing the juice and spitting out the fiber. It really hits the spot at times. Fresh Gotu Kola has an incredible taste to it. I can't get enough of it. I used to sit in my yard and eat it with a plate full of food I made. Durian is in season right now along with Jackfruit and Chempedak. Not many growing wild except for the hard to pick Jackfruit. I had to pay the price for the Durian to be shipped in. There is said to be a Durian tree on the North Shore. I haven't gone to find it yet.
Fruits and Greens are easy to find growing here. It's the fatty foods that are harder to come by. I get Coconuts, Macadamia Nuts and Avocados, but I think I still need more variety. Right now I can pick Guavas, Chocolate Fudge fruit, Noni, Bananas, Papayas, Java Plums, Tomatoes and a few other fruit. The Greens I find are Gotu Kola, Dandelion, Papaya Leaf, Noni Leaf, Ti Leaf, Banana Leaf, Clovers, and more, but my favorite is the Gotu Kola. It tastes like Carrots!
I was in the city last night attending a raw food pot luck. We stayed late and I got hungry, so I decided to take out a Coconut Sprout and my pickaxe and open the Sprout right on the sidewalk. One person said a Coconut is useless without the fluid in it. The sprout will drink all the fluid in it and fill the inner space. One guy said he used to eat that in Samoa. Someone asking for change got told to look to the trees for food. The Chocolate Fudge trees grow all over Chinatown here.
I got to try the Chocolate Sapote for the first time. I got 6 fresh Durian and smoe Macadamia Nuts and Pili Nuts from the big island this week. The Durian isn't ripe yet. I also got to try the Green Sapote. Much like the Mamey Sapote, but the Green Sapote is in season right now. There is some Eggfruit too. I let Suzanne try the Coconut Sprout Juice. She said "I want to have it every day."
The Coconut Sprout is soft on the inside and slightly firm around the edge. The video was filmed in the city at night. I didn't think it would be so dark in the video. You may have noticed in the first clip that the other person in the film who tried to peel the Coconut first had a strong pidgeon-English accent. You will hear more when you are in the islands.
