Give it to me Raw

What is the best diet for someone wih chronic fatigue, hypoglycemia, hypothyroidism, pcos, adrenal fatigue and candida? I had tried the high fruit, low fat (with lots of green smoothies) and felt pretty good when on that. However, I didnt stick to it very long and wasnt sure it was a good match for my bio type. I read Depression Free For Life and Cousen speaks of slow and fast oxidizers. I would assume I'm a "fast" but can't tell. I crave carbs and love them, but feel tired afterwards... and get hungry again quickly. Meat and beans keep me more satisfied it seems.

I would like to know what specifically I should eat. Avoid sugary fruits? I've also heard I shouldnt eat kale anymore because of my under active thyroid. I assume I should keep some cooked homemade vegetable soup in my diet too.

I'm just pretty lost as to whats best. I have been unable to see a naturopathic doctor (shes been out of town) but im hoping to within the next 2 weeks.

Please, let me know whats worked for you, or if anyone has knowledge on the subject.

Thanks :)

I would love to have my mercury removed, but I can't even see a dentists to have my cavities checked. I'm jobless and insurance-less. Thinking about what the mercury does to me just stresses me, cause what can I do?

One of the FAQ's from Hal Huggins' website:

"Question: Is 'Candida' related to my amalgams (silver fillings)?
Strangely enough, Candida is there to save your life. It changes methyl mercury to a less toxic (but still toxic) form. Bacteria change it back to methyl mercury, and the system goes back and forth. If Candida were eliminated while you have amalgam in your mouth, your health will not be as good as if it were there protecting you. Complex, but yes, there is a relationship."

How I wish I knew this in 1982 when I was first diagnosed with candida. Mercury *causes* all the things you've listed in your post sabrina. If anyone is interested I've started a ning forum on mercury and heavy metal toxicity. There is a group devoted to the candida mercury connection. be-mercury-free.ning.com

Sabrina,

This is what I would do... this comes from my, my wife's, and another friend's experiences working with an outstanding doctor in the DC area.

For one, as background, my friend went deaf before seeing this doctor. He was a musician and couldn't bear to listen to music (at the time he was drumming & playing guitar in a band and had to give it up). I had all of this gastro issues, and dropped from a normal 140 pounds to 118!

Anyway... after doing this protocol my friend regained his hearing and my weight came back and I no longer had the gastro issues. In both of our cases it was candida in the gut and elsewhere.

Phase One: Starve the yeast for 4-7 days
Veggie juice fast (no fruit whatsoever)
Do coffee enemas twice a day to cleanse liver and detox from fast
Drink at least 80 oz of liquid
No caffeine
Barley greens, wheatgrass, and bee pollen for energy.
Do intestinal cleanser every three hours. He recommends mixing Sonne #7 and #9 in 10 oz water. Follow with glass of water. This "scrapes" colon clean

Phase Two: Rebuilding for 10-21 days
Eat only proteins and greens.
Low carb proteins (limit beans) -- but lentils and ming beans are good
Tofu, fish, meat, eggs okay -- no shellfish or pork
No grains, no fruit
Start any supplements to assist with rebuilding: C, Primal Defense, Ultimate Flora, E, D, Multivitamin, any anti-yeast supplements/herbs
If you can find a doc to prescribe Nyastatin, it is an innocuous drug that feeds off of yeast.
Continue juicing at least once a day
Have at least two large salads a day
Add yogurt or kefir to diet!

Phase Three: The Anti-Yeast Diet for as long as it takes... could be a year or two or just a few months
Can start adding fruits BUT only 2 servings a day!
Fruit eaten alone
Continue with phase two foods, and can also add millet, quinoa, brown rice but caution any carb/sugar cravings
Use stevia or xylotol for sweetness

Anyway, I hope this helps. Feel free to ask more questions...

This protocol saved my life 13 years ago.

Okay cool, I'm trying to creat a list of foods to eat, and foods to avoid. It gets complicated when there's so many different recommendations for each thing. Candida obviously requires specific things.

But this is what I'm coming up with:
Avoid-sugar and sugary fruits like bananas, mangos, and pineapple
-limit carbs/fruits to 1-2 servings at a time
-cut out grains (woa, gonna be a tough one)
-nuts (some seeds okay)
-of course, dairy, gluten, corn, soy, yeast and other allergens
-kale, cabbage, mushrooms, vinegar

It will look something like this:
-supplements on empty stomach (amino acids)
-warm lemon water
-small green smoothie: (2 apples, swiss chard, berries, cinnamon) with supplements (b complex, multi, etc)
-green juice: 2 juiced veggies (celery, parsley, dark leafy greens, beets, carrots etc)
-Lunch salad: romaine, tomatoes, cucumber, carrots, low-fat annie's dressing (occassionaly add fish)
-more green juice (2nd half from morning)
-Dinner options: low-fat sweet potato soup or other veggie soup, steamed veggies with fish, or organic meat) with supplements (digestive enzymes, fish oil, or coconut oil, etc)
-kelp tea, liquid minerals
-done eating by 8pm

I'll do my best to aim for this diet. Give it a couple of weeks and see how I'm feeling :)

Hi Sabrina! I've been where you are at myself, and I am still fighting it hard. I've found that a Gabriel Cousens style Phase 1 diet didn't work. I've found that more of a low fat Sunfood Diet works well for me. I eat fruit for my calories but I still keep on the low-glycemic side.(i.e. Grapefruits, apples, berries) I do eat higher calorie fruit if I train a lot though. I eat seaweed everyday. I avoid nuts. most of the fat I eat is coconut.

I must confess, I have resorted to cacao addiction! LOL! Its keeping me going these days! Whatever.

I can honestly tell you though that a high fat diet, raw or cooked, left me suffering from chronic fatigue, adrenal burnout, candida and hypothyroidism. I don't know what "psoc" is. I wonder if I had that too?.

I don't know what it is about fat, but I have to be really super strict with myself about not eating it. It makes me feel horrible, depressed, angry, and manic when it wears off.

Do you have a decent budget for special herbs or supplements? I find that adaptogens like ginseng or ashwaghanda keep me feeling good. African Kola Nuts are a good clean "drug" too, and they are cheap.

Its a good labor, loving yourself, don't be afraid to be selfish and take good care of yourself.

Sabrina, I have experienced this too, and high-fruit raw made everything worse. I highly recommend getting the books The Yeast Syndrome, The Body Ecology Diet, and Staying Healthy with Nutrition.

For now, do not eat fruit. If you feel you have to have some, have only berries, grapefruit, lemon, lime, and tart green apples.

Eat protein. It will help ground you. If you are vegan, eat lentils. If not, eggs and fish are beneficial.

Eat lots of cooked and raw greens.

LOTS of green juices (not smoothies). Celery, parsley, cucumber, herbs to your liking. Carrot juice is good for candida even though it's sweeter than green juices.

Stay away from grains for a little while, then add quinoa and millet to your diet. I don't really eat grains, but those two are recommended for candidiasis.

Fermented foods are really good.

Probiotics and digestive enzymes.

Do not eat:
vinegar, yeast, sugar, mushrooms, dates, bananas, or any uncultured dairy

You're not alone. A number of have gone through this too!

Out of those, I have hypoglycemia and hypothyroidism. I'm still testing the waters, but it's suited me pretty well so far to include seafood into a primarily fruit diet. Alone the high fruit/low fat wasn't perfect for me long term, but adding fish and shellfish seems to really balance it out. Melons are supposed to help underactive thyroid, especially papayas. I seem to do best when I stick to melons, berries and citrus (primarily lemons). Sweet potatoes are also supposed to be good for underactive thyroid, might be a good soup base :)

I have some of those conditions and tweak the high fruit diet by increasing fat percentage using coconut, raw fish, lightly cooked grass fed meats, flax, and some soaked walnuts...with the goal to have a high omega/3 to omega/6 ratio. Mine is about 1:3 or 1:1 on days I eat fish. I eat fruit, but I eat lots of non-sugary fruits like currents, gooseberries, cranberries, wild blueberries...berries in general. I do eat other fruits too, but have decreased consumption of things like bananas and mangos. I make my green smoothies using non/bitter young greens, which are easiest on the system, and berries.

I am reading the Body Ecology Diet and hoping to make some coconut kefir soon. I don't do grains because of their antinutrients and irritating properties.
