Give it to me Raw

I have to paint my house. It has been "whipped white" for 7 years...........only now its a little more gray, and crayon strewn, with a few dents thrown in.

What ideas do people have about color theory, emotion, etc.? what colors and how do they affect people.?

I"m moving away from depression, so I want somthing uplifting, but not too stimulating, and something that will help the kids settle enough to do school stuff in the same room . The shades are navy fabric with flowers of rose, light green, off white. The floor is wood. and we have 2 nice medium dark green chairs. Not that it matters. I'm not a fashionista.

Any ideas?

uhhhhhhhmmmm I think I'd go for more of an airy fairy naturey kind of wall painting.

the thing is, I want to paint with safe paint, and I'm still looking for that kind of money in my budget.

Ooh! I love paint! I agree with Rawzilla about pale buttery yellow but with one (huge) caveat! ALWAYS go a shade lighter than you think you want with yellow. I know from experience. Colors in general will look 1-2 shades darker than the paint chip.

Pale green would be very soothing. I'd go with a green that's not minty. Another option would be (believe it or not) a pale mauve or dove gray that is comfy, soothing and soft- not too gray. The other colors would pop against it and you could do one wall white or off white to keep it light:)

I'd also look at the lighting in the room. Do you have lamps for diffused, wall-level lighting or only ceiling lights? Just ceiling lighting by itself can be rather depressing and uninspiring!

Here's the Duron color guide- you can click a shade and the wall in pic of the room will change so you can get an idea:)

PS- my living room is # 6210 (Window Pane) under "Fundamentally Neutral" and I get a ton of compliments on it:) I don't know if it would quite match your furniture- it's almost like a slightly green washed-out robin's egg color.

I like buttery yellow with an accent wall of light green near where the kids study. It's supposed to increase concentration..=)

I have one plant, and a small avocado tree. :) I used to have tons of plants in my room in HS, but later after college, I just started neglecting them, and it wasn't a good scene. I'm thinking I need to get more, especially now that my kids are older.
