Give it to me Raw

goldendreams

somebody please tell me i am not the ONLY FAT raw foodie

not that i think i am that fat or anything, and I LOVE MY BODY, i just want it leaner and such. but i have been doing raw for a while with no weight loss. no this isn't the only reason i am trying for raw, and no i have not been 100 percent raw. but i have made over my eating with juice and fruit until lunch. lunch is a big fat salad and other veggies. dinner may have some cooked stuff, cause i am still transitioning and finding veggies.
i am also getting into running right now. slowly ramping up.
i feel pretty good overall. one of my friends has decided to try raw and i hope we can get in on making new recipes together. that will help, i still love this.

If you're still transitioning I wouldn't worry too much about it. Once your body reaches it's level of homeostasis after the initial change of diet (this could take a while) then you'll start seeing a new round of weigh loss. Just give it time. Like Raw Matt said, just don't overdo the fats. :)

No! I'd like to lose 10-15 lbs and the only thing that allows me to lose weight is running 5+ miles a day and eating very little. I did a 30 day juice feast last year and lost 4 lbs--and I didn't eat ANYTHING for 30 days! Just one of those things...

i was eating raw for breakfast and lunch and then eating cooked for dinner, like pasta and such, and i didnt see any results. Once i went totally raw i lost about 7 pounds in 2 weeks. which is all i really needed to lose. It seems like it just flushes extra fat right out of your body!

Ah, here is the best quote from the inteview I just linked to "If you look at the metabolism, the liver metabolism of fructose it is just like a fat, it doesn't stimulate insulin, just like fat. It causes all this de novo lipogenesis."

So many low-fat high-fruit and high fat low fruit aren't so different anyway. It's the high fruit high fat that's going to mess you up

I lost 25 pounds on a high-fat diet without exercising much. There are lots of good reasons why things like Atkins work (http://www.abc.net.au/rn/healthreport/stories/2007/1969924.htm)! You just have to be careful to chose the right fats, which is where Atkins and other diets go wrong. I think you have to go either high-fat low sugar or high sugar low fat if you want to lose weight.

look, i have never managed to lose weight on raw and have been mostly raw (some periods close to 100%, some much less so) for 3 or 4 years. i see all these reports of people losing five billion pounds a week/month on raw, and...not me. wish i knew what they were talking about ;) not that i need to lose five billion pounds, but a little wouldnt hurt. i have always exercised moderately, often heavily (bike courier for a long time), but weight just doesnt seem to go up and down. i guess thats maybe either a message that im at my bodies proper weight (though it doesnt FEEL like it), OR, my adrenals and thyroid got so trashed from so many years of both physical and mental stress (very physically demanding job on top of grad school) that my body cant straighten itself out. the ONLY time i have really dropped weight and built signficantly more muscle was when i walked 650 kilometers in spain over the course of five weeks carrying a 40 lb backpack....walking 10-15plus miles a day with 40 lb on my back. but i was only a small percentage raw then due to the lack of availability of raw food in small villages i was walking through, and i also trashed my body on the hike--i.e. feet so bad from so much walking under h eavy weight that i literally couldnt walk by the time i got home, and its taken 2 months for my feet to feel almost back to normal, etc. so yeah, i dunno either :/ but youre not def not the only one who hasnt gotten rid of any weight. frustrating to see all these people attesting to it when it doesnt happen to you, huh?

charles, that was good :)

"Fat" is a way to look at your state of health that doesn't really serve your best interests. Oh, hold on first of all, you are not FAT - maybe you have cheap mirrors that distort your view :-) Forget about fat - concentrate on learning how to really feel what's going on. There are much better things to look at to get better information about your health like your hair and nails and your skin. Be careful about eating too lightly, starving yourself during the day when you are most active and need the energy. That causes you to overeat at night and to crave fats and dense cooked carbohydrates - and overeating those WILL put the pounds on you.

I'm still waiting for this fat girl to show up, cuz I don't see one.

Do you consume a lot of olive oil, nuts (cashews, almonds, almond butter...), seeds, avocados, dehydrated foods, and the like? If so, try switching your diet more to fresh fruits and vegetables. A lot of raw foodists eat an amazingly high quantity of fat, and that is not healthy or conducive to weight loss. I just wrote some articles on that, and you're more than welcome to read them (http://realrawmatt.blogspot.com/). Hope that helps. :)

No your not! And you don't look fat to me, you look good girl! Exercise is key! You have to work it.... It's all about balancing food and exercise and everything else! haha... but seriously, very few humans are built to be model thin, and the most important thing is that your healthy and are a healthy weight for you!

I've met some hit chix on GITMR. Not satisfying in the least. Just the opposite. Most communication is self-defeating, accomplishes nothing. I would love it if people would leave me alone when I'm out and about. Anybody else?

Mariam, watching this raises questions: for instance, is this guy just an actor? Seems like it. "Am I glad I went"? Well, in the sense that I knew I had to see him eventually.....I guess I got it over with (and used up my airline credit). Is he a...
