Science & Art of Natural Living and Natural Healing
INTRODUCTION
Nature Cure is the name given to the philosophy and practise of Natural Living and Natural Healing.
Its present-day origins can be traced back to Europe in the 1800’s when it was called ‘The Water Cure.’
We have good reason to be proud of Nature Cure because it is the only healing art, with which I am familiar, that has not changed its fundamental principles since the day it was discovered.
North American practitioners in the 20th C called the practise Naturopathy.
In the early 1900s, the late Dr. Herbert Shelton engendered the term Natural Hygiene to encompass most of the Naturopathic principles.
Nature Cure is derived from two words.
The word ‘nature’ implies that which is natural and normal - that which derives from nature itself.
The word 'cure' means care and attention.
So, we can define Nature Cure as the art of caring for human beings in a way, which is natural to their organisms.
The philosophy and practise of Nature Cure is unique.
Its approach to health and healing is completely different than any other type of philosophy or practise.
Nature Cure states that health is the natural consequence of providing the body with its normal, natural materials and environment.
Nature Cure first seeks to remove any and all causes that may be standing in the way of health.
Nature Cure does not diagnose or treat symptoms.
Nature Cure is also a way to assist in the removal of ‘disease conditions.’
Nature Cure believes that illness is simply the organism reacting to a situation that is causing it some difficulty – a normal response of the organism to an irritating condition that has interfered with the normal, natural functioning of the body.
The advocates of Nature Cure believe that the correct approach to any condition of ‘disease’ is to:
Remove any and all cause(s) of ‘dis-ease’ that may exist in one’s lifestyle.
Provide the normal and biological requirements of the body.
Rest, (Physical, Chemical and Mental) and conserve as much vital energy as possible in order to allow the body to go through its healing cycle.
There are people who believe that disease, like taxes, will always be with us – bah humbug! – That’s another hoary chestnut that needs to be roasted in the fire.
Let me state quite emphatically - the idea that ill health is inevitable - is false!
Health is the response of the organism to the environment in which it co-exists.
A happy and healthy organism is built upon a foundation of;
Living, live, whole foods – eaten as raw as possible.
The proper use of air.
Pure water – internally and externally.
Sunlight
Exercise
Rest and Relaxation
Mental Poise
Spinal integrity
Alter any or all of these factors and the foundations for health are weakened.
Nature Cure is a manner of living that produces top flight health.
We hope that it satisfies your inquiry.
“To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter... to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird's nest or a wildflower in spring - these are some of the rewards of the simple life.” - John Burroughs
WHAT IS NATURE CURE?
Quite simply – Nature Cure is the science and art of natural living and natural healing as it pertains to the human species.
All life – exists within very precise parameters.
The parameters which determine health for the human species can best be examined and grouped under the following 8 Essentials:
Nutrition
Air
Water
Sunlight
Exercise
Rest – physical, chemical and mental
Mental poise.
Postural integrity.
Most species have adapted to their environment and live in a degree of harmony.
Unfortunately, the smartest of all species on the planet has not adapted very well.
The human species is out of harmony with the environment.
Its natural instincts have been dulled and its appetites appear to have control over the intellect.
As a result – in opposition to what we are being told by ‘medical marketing’ – the state of our health is poor.
We’ve lost the plot when it comes to health.
We treat symptoms and leave causes in place to continue a predisposing condition of disease.
We teach our children that disease is a ‘bogey-man’ waiting to attack us when we least suspect.
It’s time that health came out of the closet – just as it did over 250 years ago.
It’s time to put away superstition and stop listening to fairy tales promoted by ‘vested interests.’
It’s time to listen to ‘The Voice of the Organism’ – it doesn’t lie.
The voice of the organism is Nature Cure.
Nature Cure teaches that it is NATURAL to be healthy.
We believe that human beings, like animals in their natural state, should be healthy.
The body is self regulating and self-repairing – it doesn’t need to take something to make it work.
No drugs, chemicals, vaccines, pills, potions or lotions are necessary to keep a normal person in good health.
All that is needed is a modicum of ‘Right Living.’
Correct living habits will produce normal, natural health.
“The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease.” - Thomas Alva Edison
The Drug Fallacy
In Nature Cure we classify a poison as:
Any substance which is not needed by the body as a source of food.
Something which the body cannot profitably utilise for the purpose of providing energy.
Something that does not contribute to the building of tissues.
Drugs, medicines and many commodities sold under the guise of foods are in reality poisons.
They may appear as simples, compounds, liquids, tablets, pills, potions or lotions.
They may be manufactured from plant, animal or chemical matter.
They may be mild poisons in some cases, but they are poisons nevertheless.
Do Drugs Heal?
‘Is there any healing power in anything outside of the human body?’
My reply is – ‘NONE at all.’
The power to heal does not lie in ANY substance, ANY machine or in ANY other human being.
Our high school biology book teaches us in the first chapter that each and every cell has the ‘Three Rs’ – Response, Reproduction and Repair.
The power to heal lies within the cellular make-up of every living organism - animal or vegetable.
Every cell of your body is vibrating with life, expanding and contracting, pulsating with movement.
Each cell is continually absorbing and radiating energy.
Each cell builds up (anabolism) and breaks down (catabolism).
THIS is the power that heals.
There is NO healing power in anything outside the body.
Cause and Effect
Behind every illness or disability there is a CAUSE.
If you are ill - have headaches or pains - feel tired and out of sorts - if you need a laxative to force your bowels to work properly - if you constantly have catarrh or get frequent colds then you are ill – and there must be a CAUSE
If, on the other hand – you are happy and free from pain - there must also be a CAUSE.
8 Causes of Health
The following 8 aspects of a natural lifestyle – when applied in the proper quantity and quality – will produce a state of health and happiness.
A plant-based, living foods diet, eaten as raw as possible – with the least amount of heat application.
Proper applications/exposure of the body to; Air, Water and Sunlight.
Exercise to keep the body supple and flexible with enough strength to carry out our tasks.
Adequate rest to allow the body to conserve its energy and keep doing what we ask it to do.
Mental Poise – freedom from mental tension - combined with a positive attitude - creating a state of happiness.
Adequate nerve force – the electro-magnetism generated by our nervous system – the vitality that powers the body.
These 8 factors CAUSE health!
When a person is ill - these SAME 8 factors are still just as necessary – only perhaps in different proportions and intensities.
The Chief Causes of Ill-Health
My teacher informed me very early on in my studies that anything can and probably will cause anything.
I have found this to be very true – there are no precise and specific causes for each and every form of disease symptom; however, there are generalities that can be applied in the diagnosis of the disease process.
Those lifestyle factors that produce the most noticeable, negative effect on the human species would include;
Foodless or poisoned foods.
Drugs.
Lack of exercise.
Impure air.
Polluted water.
Insufficient rest.
Tensions, worries and fears.
Excessive stimulation.
Occupational strains or accidents.
Wrong living habits.
Unbalanced emotions.
The Germ Theory - A Fallacy
To those in the know, it is simply accepted that the germ theory is a fallacy and that no real effort has been made to expose it for its true worth.
There have been a few exceptions - In recent years Doctor Glen Dettman of Melbourne has written an excellent monograph entitled MICROZYMAS PLEASE NOT BACTERIA, exposing the fallacy of the germ theory.
Perhaps the most important book on this subject was BECHAMP OR PASTEUR, by Ethel Douglas Hume, published many years ago by the C. W. Daniel Co. of London.
In her admirable book Ms. Hume goes into great detail and traces the history of the development of the germ theory as promoted by the well-known Louis Pasteur and compares it with the Microzyma theory as taught by the lesser known Professor Antoine Bechamp.
Pasteur was a plagiarist and showman who published some of the work of Bechamp as his own in an inaccurate, distorted and truncated form to give the scientific world an incorrect impression of Bechamp's discoveries.
The Microzyma theory is a scientific, logical and believable extension and development of the incomplete germ theory.
On his deathbed Louis Pasteur recanted and admitted that he had been wrong all along.
He admitted that the determining factor in disease causation was not the bacteria present but the soil in which it was found.
Pasteur said, "Bernard was right: the microbe is nothing, the terrain is everything."
A word of explanation is necessary to clarify the statement of Pasteur, which might otherwise be unintelligible.
The "Bernard" referred to was Claude Bernard, the eminent physiologist who claimed, in opposition to Pasteur, that the microbe or germ was not the prime factor in the cause of disease, but that the "terrain” was all-important.
By "terrain" was meant the environment or soil or scene of activity in which the germ found itself.
So, on his deathbed Louis Pasteur admitted that all along he had been mistaken.
The germ, which was present at the site of most diseases, did not cause the disease.
He admitted belatedly that the soil in which the germ was enabled to survive and flourish was the all-important factor.
Unfortunately, this recantation was too late and was given no publicity, and it remains unknown to the average person.
The germ theory, which Louis Pasteur had propagated so assiduously, had become an integral part of the theory and practice of medicine.
And, that is the position today - the medical profession holds to the belief that the presence of germs, bacteria, microbes or viruses, which tend to invade the body, is the direct cause of most diseases.
When germs invade the body this is called an "infection" and medical treatment is largely devoted to the administration of drugs designed to kill the tiny offending organisms.
These drugs - manufactured from chemicals, or processed from animal and vegetable matter - have the ability to destroy living organisms like germs, microbes, bacteria and viruses – that’s why they are loosely called ‘Anti-biotics.’
The organisms we are discussing are incredibly small and infinitesimal beings - credited with the almost miraculous power of being able to; invade the human body, to live there, to multiply and eventually, to kill a human being which is a million times larger than the invader - altogether a frightening prospect if true.
Fortunately for us this claim is NOT true.
We have nothing to fear from germs.
Germs and viruses are scavengers of the human body.
Germs arise within a diseased and poisoned organism and thrive on the filthy matter they find there.
Germs find no habitation or food supply in a healthy body.
Germs and viruses cannot and do not harm a healthy body.
Every housewife knows that the secret of a healthy home is cleanliness.
Apply the same line of reasoning to your body
Cleanliness and hygiene in all matters of lifestyle will produce fitness, health and happiness.
“The best things in life are nearest: Breath in your nostrils, light in your eyes, flowers at your feet, duties at your hand, the path of right just before you. Then do not grasp at the stars, but do life's plain, common work as it comes, certain that daily duties and daily bread are the sweetest things in life.” - Robert Louis Stevenson
The Naturopathic Theory of Disease
There is no need to spend time and energy killing germs or viruses – they ARE NOT the basic causes of disease.
Of course, bacteria exist – but while they remain in a quiescent state – in harmony with a healthy organism – they do not capriciously transmutate into a ‘disease.’
Germs are a secondary factor in a ‘diseased condition.’
The true cause of disease can be found in the philosophy of Toxaemia.
Toxaemia
The Naturopathic profession has adopted as its cornerstone the philosophy of Toxaemia as the prime cause of disease.
Toxaemia, as has been explained in many books, is the presence of unwanted, harmful or foreign material in the bloodstream and tissues of the body.
The word Toxaemia literally means, ‘poisoned blood’
Disease is a process – it is not a thing.
The first stage of ill health is Irritation - the irritation may be chemical, mechanical or mental.
The process of irritation uses vital energy (nerve force). This is nerve energy that is no longer available for the performance and maintenance of normal and natural functions - a lack of nerve force slows down and impairs the functioning of the cells.
This lack of nerve force is called ‘Enervation.’
Enervation leads to ‘Imperfect elimination’ of body wastes and a retention of poisons.
These poisons cause a condition called ‘Toxaemia’ which is an abnormal composition of the blood, lymph and nerve force.
Disease is a direct result of;
An impoverished bloodstream – the river of life that carries nutrients to the cells.
Improper drainage by the circulatory system – waste matters of metabolism and or other lifestyle poisons are not eliminated and excreted thoroughly.
An inadequate supply of nerve force – the electro-magnetic force that is contained within the nervous system is interfered with in some manner or other.
Disease symptoms begin to appear immediately the chemical formula of blood and tissue has been altered away from ‘the norm’ and toward a condition or state that ‘Irritates.’
Summary
The process/pattern of disease is;
Adopting living habits which cause Irritation
Enervation – a lack of nerve force.
Imperfect elimination of wastes.
Retention of poisons causing Toxaemia (blood poisoning).
Toxaemia is therefore, the pre-disposing cause to all symptoms.
You might be thinking at this point – I’ve never heard of this – is this another far-fetched ‘holistic and new age’ philosophy.
No it’s not – allow me to call expert witnesses in defence of the Toxaemia theory.
The writings of these experts are among the classics of natural healing.
Vincent Priessnitz, Silesia. 1829. Discoverer of Nature Cure.
"Various causes engender vicious juices (impure blood). The principal are: Food of bad quality, the excess of good food, the suppression of perspiration, the want of exercise, and mental affliction acting violently upon the system, such as anger, sorrow, care and melancholy."
"The causes of bodily disease, which do not proceed from external injury are material, and consist of foreign matter introduced into the infected system.
This foreign matter is divided into four parts:
Bodily substances which ought to be carried off, but have not been evaporated in proper time.
Substances which according to their nature cannot be assimilated with the human body, and notwithstanding, have got into the stomach or have penetrated the skin or penetrated into the interior.
Contagious ulcers.
Corruption of the elements air and water."
"Every acute disease is an attempt of the system to dispel diseased matter.
Fever is not the disease itself, but the consequence of it.
It is an effort or exertion greater than the normal power of the system.”
"Health is possible only by abstinence from everything against which the instinct of a man of nature warns, especially from the poisons which it has pleased man to call medicines and from those drinks and potions which the chemical art prepares and which are the enemies to human reason. Cure is alone possible by means of the abundant use of the elements of Sun, Air, Water and Earth."
Dr. R T. Trail, M.D. U.S.A. 1880.
"And, what is this mysterious thing disease? - Simply the effort to remove obstructing material from the organic domain and to repair damages. Disease is a process of purification - It is remedial action - It is a vital struggle to overcome obstructions and to keep the channels of circulation free."
"To give drugs is ADDING to the causes of disease: for drugs always PRODUCE disease. Indeed they cure one disease (when they cure at all) by producing others. Can CAUSES cure causes? Can POISONS expel poisons? Can IMPURITIES deterge impurities? No. Poisoning a person because he is impure is like casting out devils through Beelzebub, the prince of devils."
Louis Kuhne Leipzig. 1883.
"In the case of all sick persons, alterations in the shape of the body are perceptible.
These alterations are produced by foreign matter.
The presence of foreign matter in the system is disease.
The matter consists of substances of which the body has no need, and which remain in it because of defective digestion.
The foreign matter is first deposited in the neighbourhood of the secretory organs, but gradually spreads, especially when fermentation sets in, over the whole body.
As long as the organs of secretion continue to expel part of the foreign matter, the physical condition is endurable, but whenever their activity becomes lessened, greater disturbances arise.
The accumulation of foreign matter is not painful, being so to speak, a latent or chronic process, which goes on unnoticed for a considerable period.
We can best designate the forms of disease resulting from such accumulation, as painless and hidden: they are essentially the same as those generally called chronic or lingering.
The foreign matter is liable to decomposition - It is the real cause of fermentation and forms the soil on which bacilli can develop. Fermentation begins in the abdomen, where most of the foreign matter lies, but rapidly spreads upwards.
The patient's condition changes and pain is felt and fever sets in.
These forms of disease we may term painful inflammatory diseases: they are what are otherwise termed acute.
From the foregoing exposition we must draw the momentous conclusion: THERE IS ONLY ONE CAUSE OF DISEASE AND THERE IS ONLY ONE DISEASE, WHICH SHOWS ITSELF UNDER DIFFERENT FORMS."
Robert Walter, M.D. U.S.A. 1894.
"Natural hygiene science cures sick people by removing the cause of sickness.
It removes the disease by removing the necessity for it.
It believes that nature is right, hence does not seek to thwart her operations.
It declares that disease is a natural process of purification and should not be stopped, but aided.
Its remedies are nature's health preservatives.
Obedience to nature is its greatest panacea.
Air, Light, Food, Water, Exercise, Rest, Sleep, etc., in such manner and degree as nature can use are its curatives.
Remove the cause and the effect will cease, is hygienic science."
Henry Lindlahr, M.D. U.S.A. 1920.
"The primary cause of disease, barring accidental or surgical injury to the human organism and surroundings hostile to human life, is violation of nature's laws.
The effect of violation of nature's laws on the physical organism is: - Lowered vitality, abnormal composition of the blood and lymph, accumulation of waste matter, morbid materials, and poisons.
These conditions are identical with disease, because they tend to lower, hinder or inhibit normal function and because they engender and promote destruction of living tissues."
G. R. Clements. U.S.A. 1924.
"The continuous existence of the body depends on the blood.
A normal flow of normal blood brings health.
Retarded circulation and foul impure blood brings disease.
Purification of the blood and acceleration of the circulation is scientific treatment.
There can be no other.
The means to accomplish this are supplied by the body alone.
The body makes blood and purifies it.
Nothing else can do this work.
The supply determines the method of procedure.
The procedure must be natural, and being natural, results are, and must be, favourable and permanent."
John H. Tilden, M.D. U.S.A. 1926.
"In the process of Metabolism there is cell-building (anabolism) and cell destruction (catabolism).
The broken-down tissue is toxic, and in health, when nerve energy is normal, it is eliminated from the blood as fast as it is evolved.
When nerve energy is dissipated from any cause, physical or mental, or excitement or had habits, the body becomes enervated.
When enervated, elimination is checked, causing retention of toxins in the blood (Toxaemia).
This accumulation of toxins when once established will continue until nerve energy is restored by removing the causes.
So-called diseases are Crises of Toxaemia.
The dietetic and food insanity that constitutes the headliner on the medical stage just now is causing people to demand a diet that will cure them of their peculiar maladies.
The idea prevails that some peculiar diet will cure rheumatism or any other disease.
DIET OR FOOD WILL NOT CURE ANY DISEASE.
A fast, rest in bed, and the giving-up of enervating habits, mental and physical, will allow nature to eliminate the accumulated toxins: then if enervating habits are given up, and rational living habits adopted, health will come back to stay, if the one cured will STAY PUT."
"Modern cures and immunisation are vanity and vexation.
They are founded on the foolish principle of reasoning, from effect, which is Disease to CAUSE.
"There are no cures.
Nature returns to normal when enervating habits are given up.
Every so-called disease is built within the mind and body by enervating habits.
"In chronic disease, the treatment first, last and all the time, must be with a view to getting rid of the Toxaemia.
This consists in correcting whatever habits of life are producing enervation, and then gradually building up a normal digestion, assimilation and elimination."
It took a long time to evolve out of the conventional idea of many diseases into the truth that there is but ONE disease, and that the four hundred catalogued so-called diseases are but different manifestations of Toxaemia - blood and tissue uncleanliness."
Herbert M. Shelton, Ph.D. U.S.A. 1935 - World authority on Natural Hygiene.
"Toxaemia is produced by anything and everything that enervates the body.
Enervation checks elimination, permitting the accumulation of uneliminated waste.
The accumulation of body waste - end-products of metabolism - produces Toxaemia.
Toxaemia is the universal basic cause of all so-called disease.
Adventitious complicating causes may be superadded to Toxaemia.
By checked elimination is not meant constipation, but checked excretion through all of the secretory organs of the body.
The ultimate cause of mankind's many so-called diseases lies in the enervating habits of mind and body practised almost universally.
Because this is so, the ultimate remedy for our diseases is a correction of the habits of life."
"Healing is a process of evolution, just as birth, growth and development are.
Neither medicines, water, food, exercise nor anything else external to the organism have any healing power.
The same power that brought man into health keeps him in health and it alone can restore him to health. That power resides in the man and nowhere else in nature. The same powers and processes of life are in operation in disease as in health. In disease, no new or extra-vital power is super-added to the processes of life."
Hereward Carrington, Ph.D. U.S.A. 1954.
"What are the measures advocated to restore the sick person to health?
Not by smothering symptoms, but by removing the CAUSE of these symptoms, where they themselves would naturally and automatically disappear.
What is the cause?
Waste poisonous material in the system which nature is endeavouring to expel.
Today, this condition is known among health-reformers as Toxaemia.
By this they do not mean Germs or the excretion of Germs, but a general condition of poisoning brought on by an excess of putrefying waste material in the bloodstream and body generally.
When this is expelled, all symptoms (that is, so-called diseases) spontaneously vanish - The patient is "cured.”
The philosophy underlying the true art of healing is thus very simple. All so-called diseases are basically ONE. There are not many (local) diseases but one casual factor which may produce local symptoms. The same cause is at work and the same methods of treatment are applicable in practically all cases."
HOW NATURE CURES
Nature Cure is devoted wholly to the achievement and maintenance of normal health by natural means.
It seeks to provide the correct environment and conditions so that the ‘Life Force’ within the body will restore and maintain health.
Nature Cure recognises nature as the ONLY healer.
A naturopath is a ‘Lifestyle Adjustor’
The job of a Naturopath is to;
Uncover the factors that cause disease.
Teach the client how to adjust their lifestyle so that health and happiness are the result.
Therapeutics
We use only Living Foods, Water, Sunlight, Air, Earth, Exercise, Rest and Positive Thinking to create an environment for health and healing.
Physical Manipulations such as Chiropractic, Osteopathic or Naprapathy are used to assist in establishing normality of the body structure.
The treatments used are not treatments in the usual sense of the word.
Naturopathic treatments are used only to achieve normality - they concentrate solely on normalisation of the patient
When the body is normal it repairs itself automatically.
Naturopaths therefore do not promise to CURE disease and they do not TREAT disease.
Naturopaths do not prescribe drugs, medicines or remedies of ANY kind.
The only substance used in Nature Cure, which even remotely resembles medicine, is water, and water has never injured anyone or produced any harmful side effects.
The approach of Nature Cure to health is scientific, logical and rational.
Its treatments are biologically sound and normal.
Does Nature Cure Work?
Philosophy is one thing but Practise is everything.
Many thousands or people all over the world have been restored to health after all other methods had been tried, failed and medical authorities had said their case was hopeless.
The innate intelligence of the organism is to restore itself to normality – to restore itself to a state of health – and it will, providing that;
There is sufficient vitality within the body.
Nature Cure will not save a dying person.
It will undoubtedly prolong life, but unless there is enough vitality, even Nature Cure will fail.
“If Nature Cure is so effective, why do not more people adopt it and why has the medical profession ignored its teachings?"
Members of the medical profession can be forgiven if they do not adopt natural healing methods.
Most physicians do not know anything about Nature Cure and are too busy to investigate it thoroughly.
Members of the medical profession are impatient with Naturopaths. They claim that doctors already use everything that Naturopaths use, so there is no need for a separate profession.
It is true that the medical profession at one time or another has used all of our methods, although they have now largely discarded most of them.
The essential difference between medicine and Nature Cure is the philosophy behind them.
The tools we use are not so important.
Give one tradesperson a saw, a hammer, a plane and a square and they will produce a piece of furniture or a house - and it will be a work of art.
Give the same tools to an unskilled person and they will produce an inferior job.
It is not the tools but the skill and understanding of the operator and how he applies his knowledge and skill that matters.
Habits, Change and Choice
Never try to take something away from another person – they will defend to the bitter end – often against better judgement and counsel.
Many people do not adopt Nature Cure because they don’t want to discard their old living habits.
‘Yes! I’d like to have better health but do I have to give up…?’
There are many types of health care systems available to-day - everything from A-Z.
However, the sheer number of types does not necessarily mean that you, the client, have more choices.
Upon examination, I am certain you will find that most, if not all methods of health care systems treat symptoms while cause(s) remain in effect.
It’s obvious to this author that the present philosophy of disease causation and cure is outdated, over-rated and at best, ineffectual – it’s time for a change!
And change must first come from within.
Each one of us must become responsible for our own state of health – admitting that we are, in most cases, the result of our lifestyle choices.
If we accept the claim that it is natural to be healthy and that there are certain principles to be followed in order to maintain the highest degree of health, it is logical for us to study the human body and its environment and then determine what we should do to be healthy.
Economics Governs Everything
I am told that in certain societies, a practitioner is paid when the client is well - when a client becomes ill there is no fee.
I am successful in my practise when I do not hear from my clients.
Once a client has been educated in the process of natural living and natural healing there is usually little need for further contact – other than timely reminders and support during times of ‘stress.’
There is nothing to sell or buy – other than the knowledge imparted.
A lifestyle based on the principles of Nature Cure would obviate the necessity for the overload of physicians, hospitals and the burgeoning dependency on pharmaceuticals.
If people lived normal, natural lives there would be little need for drugs or for physicians to prescribe them.
Only surgeons would be needed to attend to people who were accidentally injured.
This, rather altruistic, philosophy of Nature Cure makes it hard to exploit.
Summary
Philosophy is one thing BUT Practise is everything.
It should be understood that philosophy deals only in a general way with the principles underlying natural living and natural healing.
The specific laws governing these two subjects are part of the practice of nature cure.
For practical information we must go to the science of biology - the study of living things.
The exact details of subjects like nutrition, exercise, hydrotherapy, manipulative techniques, breathing and so on must be sought in the literature of nature cure.
The philosophy of health simply lays down general guidelines for us to follow. It acts in the same way as a map does to a navigator and keeps us on a true course.
It is important for us to have guidelines that we can trust otherwise we could fall into error and find ourselves ‘treating symptoms’ in lieu of ‘removing causes.’
Health Guidelines
Nature Cure is a process of;
Education - education in the manner of correct living and natural healing.
Choice – choosing to live in a manner that produces health.
It is natural to be healthy.
ALL healing power resides within your own body.
There is NO curative power in drugs, medicines, herbs, foods, food supplements, or anything else outside your own body.
Nature has NOT provided ‘cures’ for disease - only penalties for the breaking of some natural law.
Following the simple laws of nature is the only valid method of cure.
Drugs cause disease - If they succeed in curing one disease, they cause another.
ALL drugs have two effects. One is that intended to benefit the patient and the other is the side-effect which harms the patient. You cannot have one without the other. Since all drugs are potential causes of disease we should avoid them at all times.
Drugs do not act upon the body as taught in medical schools and medical textbooks. The body reacts to the drug. The body recognizes the drug as unwanted material and makes an attempt to expel it.
True medicines are materials and influences which have normal relations to the body.
Nature's medicine chest contains the following natural medicines . . . Living Foods, Sunlight, Air, Water, Rest, Exercise, Correct Temperature, a Positive Mental Attitude and when necessary, the correction of Misaligned Bony Joints.
Natural living and natural healing supply the body with whatever it needs and can use in the particular circumstances.
Nature cure assists people to get well by removing the causes of disease and by providing the most favourable conditions.
Nature cure is not a one-sided approach to health. It makes use of all non-harmful methods which have as their objective the normalization of the body structure and body chemistry.
When the body is given it's normal natural materials and conditions it maintains health.
It will also restore health when it has been lost, if sufficient vitality is present.
All ‘Diseases are curable’ – BUT – Not all people.
There are two essential elements necessary for the understanding and practise of Nature Cure.
Intelligence
Will-power
I suspect that because you are reading this book, you have these two pre-requisites plus a strong desire to increase the quality of your own health.
As you continue your studies and increase your practise of Natural Living and Natural Healing you will develop the necessary confidence to make the best natural choices for radiant health and happiness.
Confidence – Born Out of Knowledge – Based on the Truth
