So I decided that if I was going to reap the benefits of the raw lifestlye, so should my little kitten. I put Sonny on raw cat food about the same time that I went raw. (Btw, there is a company in Canada that does raw cat food called Posh Kosh. I am sure there must be others as well). My kitten when from the tiny thing you see in my pictures, to a strapping young man, who could put many other cats to shame! He is pure muscle - he even intimidates my sister's dog Titus.
What I feed my cat:
- Posh Kosh (groung up meat with bone)
- chicken giblets
- liver
- sometimes eggs
- anyting else he wants out of my veggie/fruit (even carnivores need greens from time to time)
I have seen the cats of friends and family members and have noticed how well mine is growing. My sister also put her cats on raw and they have gone from fat to fab in the last year. They are two mean lean purring machines. However, since they were put on raw as older cats, it was harder to get them used to eating the raw food. My kitten took to it right away, lapping up a raw egg or piece of meat in seconds. What helps the older cats is to mix the raw food into their regular food or with a can of cat food and slowly changing the ratios until they are100%.
A note on commercial cat food: Apparently someone sent out to test what they put into the commercial food and sent a piece of leather through the testing process and it passed!! If that doesn't make you want to switch to a more conscious brand I don't know what will!
Also, I do not agree that cats should be put on vegetarian or even worse, vegan diets. They are carnivores and need to be fed what they are naturally inclined to eat. No animal is designed to eat grains - even birds feed their young insects because grains are insufficient. So please, no grain for the kitts!
I understand when people say it's expensive to feed the cats raw, but I think it's about priority for me. I choose to focus on the quality of my food, and spend less in other areas of my life. I don't buy lots of gadgets, or nice cars but I do get the best quality fuel for myself and my dependents. They don't have the choice, and I figure, for all the love they give me, it's the least I can do :)
