I love this time of the year when the energy begins to flow after the quiet of winter. I had a double treat yesterday on the road to and from my cabin: in the morning the light was playing on my favorite maple tree and I stopped to play with my camera. The old tree has just begun to put out its bright green flowers. On my way home just before sunset and a few hundred yards from the tree, a beautiful full grown male mountain lion crossed the road in front of me. I stopped to watch, but he wasn't going to stop for a photo. He did show me his graceful magnificence as he loped off through the open woods. This was a rare treat, I've only seen one other lion locally in the past 12 years and that was a small young adult at night. The lion's natural local prey is deer, but occasionally they take livestock or someone's pet that has wandered too far from home. It's such a blessing to live in a place where wild things can roam free relatively unmolested.
