I've been training since June 2009 for the marathon I am running on October 18th. I can't believe it's finally here. Am I nervous? Not a bit! Am I ready? I sure am!!! I've been training for the whole summer, running the long miles on the weekends and short runs during the week (6 miles is now a short run which is unbelievable since that used to be hideously long!). I also have been doing circuit training, plenty of ab work and push ups. I love seeing how great I feel when running and eating raw foods for fuel. I have found that instead of sugary gels and bars, my main fuel is chia seeds and bee pollen. I run along side team mates who eat mainstream foods and am finding myself to be surpassing those I used to struggle to keep up with. Most of the folks on the team I tell about raw think it's cool but just kind of either ignore me, make a face or say they will try it some day. That's okay. I don't need anyone to agree with me or even try it. I do know though that at 5:45 am when we meet to run, I am always the perkiest one out there and am jumping around while the others are yawning and complaining. Hmmmmm I wonder if it was that big pasta dinner they ate the night before?
Green smoothies with Warrior Food protein powder, big fat green salads, fresh fruits, bananas and avocados and olives are some of my favorite fuels. I am putting himalayan salt in my water for running which keeps my tummy from sloshing while I am running and keeps me fueled and hydrated.
I never thought I would run a marathon, and now I think I am hooked. I'm buying up all the running mags I can find and searching the internet for more races and marathons. Could it be that the human body is designed to run? I think so. I feel better than I have felt in my life (seriously!) I'm going to keep running and am becoming the fittest 40 something I can be! Anyone want to join in?
