Give it to me Raw

Why is it that whenever I reveal I am a raw vegan (which is not often) people criticize it as being some "hippy shit." Why do hippies have such a bad name? and what the hell is the definition of a hippy anyway? And why is being healthy and environmentally conscious labeled as being "hippy shit"?

I think perhaps this is also due to some of the RAW community literally do end up looking like they are straight out of the 60/70´s, no? A penchant for growing hair long (and washing it 1 time a month), wearing socks in sandals, and wearing predominantly hemp and batik etc. I also think the more "spiritual" aspects of RAW, can make it easy for people to be very categorical. I´m talking drum circles, healing, spirits etc etc etc. I think whenever a social tribe of sorts develop, the predominant and most evident hooks there is for people to hang on to , will be their instant association. I grew up with radical hippie parents, so I´ve got no issue with all that, but I certainly don´t wear the hippie uniform ; ) And from what I´ve seen in here so far, it seems to be a very diverse, and interesting community. What stands out for me is great backbone, courage and the ability to not be swayed by conformity, but rather following what feels right, and makes sense. The gut feeling I guess ; )

I think hippies are really misunderstood. They scare people who live with a lot of fear-based views. If you just start asking some questions of the people who use 'hippie' as a swear word, you'll start to hear their fears. Fear that if we all were so idealistic, the evil people of the world would eat us alive. Fear that if hippies got their way, we'd require everyone to live in communes and give up the conveniences of life.

They're real and scary threats to a lot of people. Start taking about living in harmony with nature - healthy, organic, sustainable, etc. They're all buzzwords that produce fear in people. It may sound strange, but think of how you feel when you hear words like, synthetic, corporate giant, and gas guzzler.

i've been a massage therapist for many yups over the years, and many times there's been a real undercurrent of judgement about my doing what i do...kind of a 'yeah, it's nice doing what you do...but out here in the real world where i live'...blah blah...i'm over it. not sending out my tentacles to pick up on that anymore.

just went to a great wedding last weekend of some friends. everyone was dressed as pirates.

I used to clean houses for yuppies in the 80s. One of my clients, who was also a friend, one day told me I was a hippie - in a friendly, matter of fact way, she didn't mean it as a judgment or anything. I was shocked, I had never thought about it before. But when I did, I realized she was right!

And I'm still quite happy to be a hippie.

you know, i've always wondered on this dynamic! i think there is even a bit of a seething resentment toward hippy-ness being seen more as a fashion statement than as it once was being a way of life...i don't know. there is a hostility and duality, though. i think the whole resolution of it can only help by a way of living fueled by enzymes and such...a fresh way of thinking.

Yes i get the same thing. I think it's just down to fear of the unknown . It used to annoy me but know i actually quite like being a "Hippy" . I wouldn't live anyother way.

YES I am a Hippie if I am ever anything. I say this because whenever I get called Hippy it's because of something I am extremely proud of and normally or because of something that means a lot to me. So now I am proud to say that I am a Hippie or Hippy or whatever. (see, I'm not even attached to an official spelling)

All of us Hippys would have saved the world 30 years ago but then.... Cocaine! :( and along came the 80's

I would encourage you to eat oranges instead Vampi. Whole food is always best. Oranges are a perfect food; lots of sugar, and lots of fiber to slow down the absorption into the blood stream. Take out all the fiber and you've got a blood sugar spik...

since I find no reason to believe in 'allergies' against 'natural' appropriate stuff, I would think it's more likely just the fact that pineapple if bought in store is pretty much always unripe. Not that it matters to the situation perhaps. ...but...

I write poems (mostly in Seussian rhyme), articles on health, and am working on a couple of books on health...

Nicolas have you ever had a pineapple that does not give symptoms. In my experience around these hoods where we are there are practically no ripe pineapples..or perhaps a few dunno

Yes ma'am. Resting as completely as possible with eyes closed; getting enough water; avoiding too much sun; avoiding toxic substances (personal care products, cleaning products, etc.)

I enjoy writing about the deepest darkest secrets of my heart, about things I dont want to share with anyone..or lack the guts to share. Love letters mostly, but not always. If I have a dream I want to remember Ill write it down.
