Give it to me Raw

I have been transitioning for a while now and have finally decided to plunge into rawness... so far I haven't had much trouble but I am consuming A LOT of nuts! I would like to give myself a break because I am new to this... I've read that most raw foodists gradually lean more towards fresh fruit and veggies... most of the recipes are so exciting and new to me that I want to try so many things... but I am taking in way too much nuts I feel. Any suggestions?

Ahh thanks so much everyone. All of you have worthwhile suggestions I very much appreciate. I haven't experienced any draw backs as of yet so I feel as if it's nuts that's going to carry me through for now then nuts it will be. I am eating a ton of fruit and a plethora of greens so my system will probably carry over in due time. Perhaps my little experiments are a mere celebratory phase so I'll just be patient and keep listening to my body. Thanks again.

yea, coconut is good -- and avocados. avoid too many nuts if you can. I maxed out on almonds at the start.... soon I got brutal hives for about 6 months -- before realizing it was the boatloads of almond butter I was eating. Like Justin says eat plenty of greens during the day. Also, really chew up the heavy food and relish it in smaller quantities. And of course, there are fruits! I just had a huge cherimoya. Enjoy this gorgeous vegetable world!

Nuts tend to be acidic so eating them with greens if you can would help. If you're looking to replace the nuts with something heavy, try avocado or coconut meat. Those are very heavy as well.

Best wishes on your transformation! Very cool of you!!!

My wife and I went through a similar problem at the beginning. Then we found 80/10/10, and everything is fine now. For raw foodists, we get our calories either from fat or fruit, and the low-fat, high-fruit way has worked much better for us.

Here is a review and summary of Dr. Graham's 80/10/10 book.

And here is community that we have found very supportive.

Best wishes on your raw journey!

I say follow your heart, love. I, too, consumed a lot of nuts in the begining. Maybe because I was looking for something that felt more "solid" (or what I had come to expect "solid" to feel like) or maybe because I was trying to slow down my detox process. Anyway, over time I did gradually let the nuts and seeds go. I noticed first that cashews didn't feel all that good anymore. then almonds, then I just ate walnuts and pumkin seeds for a while and eventually even those felt too heavy. Now, instead of trying to get that heavy/full/solid feeling I crave lots of fresh juicy fruit and greens. I've never read the 80/10/10 book but I'm aware of it's concept. It seems that as time goes on I'm naturally growing towards something along those lines. I also used to eat 2 avos a day and couldn't imagine eating fewer but now I can only eat half of one. I think the key is to do what you feel and be happy about it. This is a beautiful, long, winding road towards health. Heck, the whole road IS health. Enjoy the scenery, my lovely!

Hey, if it's working, go for it. For many though, nuts can irritate the stomach and have lots of antinutrients.

No, it needs all three. Flavor and ratio, not just equal parts of every component.
