Give it to me Raw

i have previously experimented with fruitarianism for ethical and health reasons. I felt great, but i read some dental horror stories about fruitarians who had decaying teeth due to fruit acid. has anyone ever had any experience with this?

i would like to give this another shot, but i am afraid of having dental issues..

I stopped fruits altogether. They just make my teeth and gum hurt too much. I tried some small amounts of fruits; melons, citrus and bananas for two days. But the pain came back. I did this three times; still hte same result. It must from my days as a raw vegan. I just can't take fruit. This year, I will try to eat local fruits and berries but only when in season (Sweden). That would be some time in August/September. 'Til then, I'll keep eating wild meat, fish, some greens growing outside in the wild, organic eggs. Raw vegan just doesn't work. What if there is something we need fron animals to keep our teeth and gums healthy etc? Love and Peace, from Sweden!

I wouldn't eat too many acidic fruits. My teeth began deteriorating on just a diet of fruit. Greens are crucial!

I'm not a fruitarian but mostly what I eat are fruits, and all kinds of fruits...pineapples, grapefruits, lemons, oranges...you name it I’ll eat it. I haven't been to the dentist for 2 years and I just recently went back because I got one of those post cards from my dentist saying that I haven't been there in a while :) so I went there expecting few decays but I was surprised and thrilled that I had none...and it was really funny to see my dentist's face when he saw that my teeth where perfectly healthy. It almost seemed like he had that speech ready for me” see that’s what you get for not going to the dentist on regular basis”, but he couldn’t use it this time.
So I don’t know what kind of fruits people with decaying teeth eat but I would think that fresh, ripe fruits which are full of water and natural fibers only help with keeping your teeth clean, with that said I also think that it is still important to brush your teeth twice a day.
…but I’m not an expert it’s just my experience

Erica

Some people get tooth problems others don't on high or just fruit I've noticed. There must be more to it then then just the fruit being the cause.
I would recommend you speak to longtime fruitarians and their experience that's what I'm doing at the moment. I want to go properly 80/10/10 or even just fruit myself, it's a huge desire of mine now.

Check out Anne Osborne's site if you haven't already done so, she just released her first book too which I am reading at moment and loving it...http://www.fruitgod.com/

All the best with it :)

There's more to it than just this. Check out the Ayurveda group or books.

I tried the fruitarian way about 15 years ago and definitely encountered a lot of dental problems (that I NEVER had when I was eating cooked). Citrus fruit probably being the main culprit. The more green leaves you include in your diet, the easier it is to avoid those problems in my experience.

Only with fruit juice or dried fruit. Never with whole fresh fruit. I say fruit and greens is the way to go.

That's true. The greens provide a high amount of minerals that balance the effects of a high fruit diet.

You also might want to limit or avoid acidic fruits like citrus and pineapple.
