Give it to me Raw

I heard about the candida test where you spit first thing in the morning into a glass of water, wait a bit, and see if the spit is cloudy and dangles down like "spider legs" - which then verifies that you do have it! wooo

So I tried that this morning, and much to my chagrin, there were spider legs. Is this test really accurate then? Do I have the dreaded candida?

Other signs seems to be leading me towards that conclusion. Like the fact that I'm constantly craving sugar whether it be in the form of fruits, dates, honey or agave. I'll buy a thing of 15 or so dates and it doesn't seem to last more than two days.

Candida is quite icky and I would like to remove it if this is in fact what's going on here. But then I feel a lack of willpower, and can't imagine living without fruits and sugar for such an extended period of time. What are other people's experiences with this? How did you know for certain you had it and what did you do about it - did you take an approach as extreme as a complete fast from sugars, or did you instead try something more gradual and easy on yourself?

Interesting test. I wonder how accurate that is.

I did a cleanse, two actually. It was INSANE, like being in rehab. Like I was NUTS. For a good 3 days I was SCREAMING for candy. I let myself eat as much fake sweetener, to try & help wean me off, and the "laxitive effect" made me want to stop that too... but those first three days were BAD.

My symptoms -- GAS in a mad way, like not even done eating and getting gassy & bloated. A drunken feeling after eating. Depression, like in a crying "I'm going to jump off the bridge!" kind of way. Ears always clogged, nose always clogged. Black outs, esp after eating fruit, like a curtain would fall and I'd wake up half an hour later and not know wtf had happened. Forgetting things. Felt like I was walking in a cloud. MASSIVE food allergies. Just about as sick as a person can feel without actually having a 'disease' (tho trust me, I was def ill-at-ease!)

So I did the cleanse and it was nuts, and I was basically living on corn chips and salads. After about 6 weeks I tried eating an omni diet and it was like the clouds had parted and a new day dawned. I could eat ANYTHING and no reactions. Felt sane & normal. Digested well, pooed well. Amazing.

Did another, shorter one 4 weeks later and since then, I've been a new woman! Changed my life!!!

there is also the theory that it is not the sugar from fruits that keeps feeding candida, but rather fat that feeds candida. i think if you search the forums you will find threads on this--

Very often it is not tested for, especially since we all have some yeast in our bodies. I believe you can have your stool tested for it; however, it may not show up there, even if you have it systemically. It is simply an overgrowth of the yeast that naturally lives in our gut. When it overgrows, you will likely get sugar cravings and may also have all kinds of physical and mental problems. Your symptoms are the dead-giveaways: sugar cravings (that's the yeast's food), fatigue, bloating, and so on. It starts in the gut, which then affects your immune system. I never heard of the spit test, and I have seen a number of doctors who were familiar with yeast. But if you can't give up sweets, it would be hard to imagine you don't a yeast overgrowth. It's very common in modern culture to have it. You could try getting the Body Ecology Diet book to get a handle on the pace of fasting from sugars. But, yes, usually you need to cut the sweets cold turkey, so to speak.

I have been on and off birth control for the past couple years, but I haven't taken it in three months, and no other medications. I know that probiotics are helpful, and antibiotics harmful..

Hi-I'm new and you're my first comment :)
Are you on any medications? Apparantly it is often due to being on anti-biotics or birth control for a long time.
