Give it to me Raw

Did you know that 1 head of broccoli has 18 grams of protein? This is MASSIVE.

200 calories- ONLY!

900 % RDA of Vitamin C!

30 % RDA for Calcium

30 % RDA of Iron

80 % RDA Vitamin A

This could be your answer if someone asks you where do you get your protein. Enzymes in broccoli have also been shown to kill the bacteria in the stomach that causes stomach ulcers- and may help with other digestion problems.

The calcium is HUGE!

It is so easy to eat a lot of broccoli. It's great to dip in dressing, make into a slaw, and dropped into miso soup-

But my favorite is to massage with any nut based dressing - nacho cheese- type with nutritional yeast and dehydrate for a couple hours- OMG this is SO good!!

Just a reminder..=)

Broccoli also gives me massive farts.

It's a good thing I'm XX though, because I just puff out clouds of pink strawberry sparkles.

HUGE! Agreed. I eat broccoli all the time, knew about the calcium and vit c, but did not know about/pay attention to the protein content. You could blend it in a smoothie. I do it with banana, coconut, kiwi, greens, spirulina, agave, hemp seeds and blueberries. I did that this morning, tasted great.

If you make water hot and pour into a bowl with miso or other seasonings you can just throw a bunch of vegetables into it like chopped broccoli, sesame seeds, mung bean sprouts, green onion, and grated carrot. It's still "raw" just wilted in a way. The vietnamese have a cold salad and soup bowls that are done in a similar way. So good!

I just can't eat it raw :( I remember reading once that this was common due to something like its cell walls?

I love it lighly steamed with some seasme and tamari, maybe i'll try dehydrating instead. i guess it counts as a leafy green

Wow great info AwesomeUniverse thanks for posting.

Sara have you tried raw broccolli florets with a Satay dip ?

Here's a link to it http://www.rawfoodrecipes.co.uk/Recipes/Dips%20and%20sauces/Broccoli%20and%20Satay%20sauce.htm

and then you can dip the broccolli in it.

I loooove broccoli! Mmmmm! I did read somewhere, though, that if you don't eat it with some sort of oil or you won't reap the benefits? I also read somewhere that the cell walls of uncooked broccoli are too thick and tough to break down in one's system, but that COOKING it makes it MORE digestible?!?!? I DO NOT KNOW IF THAT IS TRUE, but I did read it?

You're suppose to be able to pick the leaf out of the middle - and it comes out realllllllll easy - if it's ripe. It should smell ripe too.

It's actually surprisingly easy once you get the hang of it. No machete required. Shave off the husk at the pointed top close to the shell. Then poke the point of a knife in about 2 or 3 cm out from the centre and wiggle it about until it pierces ...
