I thought I would share 25 things about myself - a list i posted to a mainstream social networking site.
Goals
1. Getting off the grid and growing one’s own food is one of the most important pieces to resolving world problems in my mind. Peace starts with a garden, and it’s my goal to learn and practice permaculture by next year.
2. I think the closer I can get to living in harmony with mother earth, the higher my potential vibration, contentment, and life meaning can become. To this end, I deeply admire and draw inspiration from Anastasia (the real life figure of Vladimir Megre’s books – comes with my highest recommendation), Peter Ragnar, and Harley Johnstone (aka Durianrider). They’re very different from one another, but they live out the same kind of idea and I hope to do the same in my own way soon enough.
3. It is my goal to love and accept myself completely everyday.
4. I try to live with an attitude of gratitude, rather than the culturally dominant view of scarcity (not enough friends, money, beauty, health, possessions, etc). Energy flows where attention goes.
5. I live to eat and eventually would like to eat to live. One of my few remaining vices is emotional eating. I’m addicted to avocados and use them to suppress emotions, usually at night. Hmm…emotional eating to suppress emotions, is that a paradox?
Youth
6. In grade school I looked forward to going home to my room, locking the door, turning the radio on high and dancing like mad until collapsing to the floor. Only a brief heart-thumping respite later, and I would be back at it again, lol. They say you should do what you naturally gravitate towards as a kid, so I seriously consider a profession in dance – but for now it’s a recreational passion.
7. Sometimes I deal with a lack of confidence and I attribute this to two psychological turning points in my childhood. One of which was that I was placed in the slow reading track in elementary school and it dawned on me that I needed to work harder to catch up. I did so, swiftly enough, but I continue to overcompensate up to this day.
Beliefs
8. I believe salvation lies within, and external attempts to fill a void will result in suffering.
9. In the current state of the world, I will not have a child. Adoption is something I might consider, however.
10. I’m a health junky. I’ve done (and still do) some pretty wacky non-mainstream things mostly in the name of health: foraging and eating wild plants, oil pulling, using bar soap as toothpaste, squatting on top of toilet bowls, eating an uncooked plant-based diet, and the kicker…Shivambu Kalpa Vidhi (drinking or topically applying urine). Yep.
11. I live in the present moment. I think it’s natural for people to grow close in proximity, and grow apart with distance. It’s ok to do so. And that’s why I won’t do long distance relationships (although I enjoy correspondence)
12. I hold many uncommon often controversial beliefs (maybe not to gi2mr, though) concerning politics, government, voting, disease, health, health “care,” the financial institution, pharmaceuticals, foreign affairs, and much more. After hearing me out, one might think i'm all doom and gloom, but I consider myself an optimist/realist living in a very exciting time. Anyway, feel free to pick my brain if so inclined.
Self-Defining
13. I’m easy-going and hardly mainstream, low-maintenance and high-purpose, sensitive and thick-skinned, serious and goofy, self-critical, capricious, artistic and non-judgmental.
14. I am happiest when I’m dancing, doing yoga, getting sunshine, drinking good water, self-affirming (maybe doing a little mirror work), eating fruits greens and veggies or fasting, sleeping enough, feeling a sense of belonging, meditating, exercising, breathing deeply, practicing posture, hugging or cuddling.
15. I’m a touch oriented person and I commonly communicate affection through touch (while trying to be sensitive to others’ space). I’m also good with my hands (and that’s a standing offer you may redeem for one free back rub when met in person at a time of your choosing – offer valid while supplies last). :p
16. I love making kick ass raw food. The flavors always come out so rich. I consider myself a chef.
17. I’m a fantastic listener.
Other tid-bits
18. I wanderlust all too often. I grew up in MN, studied in S.Korea five months, performed in Alaska 5 months, stayed in N.Carolina 3 months, lived in Thailand one month, a week in Cambodia, and visited 25-35 ports w/ cruiselines. I’ve decided I’d like to settle down where there is something growing…year round (ie. not MN).
19. For the past couple years I’ve been a singer pianist for a living, but I’ve never had a private voice lesson.
20. When I need a friend and one isn’t there, I turn to a piano instead. It’s amazing how cathartic they can be.
21. I lost hearing in my left ear while flying congested. I was unsuccessful dealing with the pressure change during the plane’s final descent. If you haven’t noticed by now, I’ll always be to the left of you.
22. Music never ceases to amaze me. My favorite pianists are Martha Argerich, Keith Jarrett, and Oscar Peterson. My favorite album is “The melody at night with you” (k.jarrett). My favorite key is Db major or D minor.
23. I know at least 50 jokes off the top of my head and love making people laugh.
24. I’ve never lost a thumb war. That’s a standing offer.
25. I have a deep love for all living things
