I had a semi-raw dinner, in the cause of family unity...you know how it goes. They all had beef & pepper fajitas and I had raw red pepper, avocado, jalapeno, and a smear of refried beans (because I cannot resist homemade vegetarian refried beans, period. Cannot. Do. It.), some cooked dandelion greens (because I cannot eat them raw, come hell or high water), and of course, a whole wheat tortilla.
Ah, the tortilla: I've still got some non-yeast breads in my diet, and I'm not sure if I'll give them the heave-ho, or not. I'm in this transition period, and I'm trying to let it lead itself, like it did when I stopped eating yeast bread...I just stopped, I didn't want it any longer. There's something damn seductive about these tortillas we get: they're from a vegan bakery in Brooklyn, and we buy tons of them, and freeze them.
Dessert is pineapple, and as much as I am trying to do the locavore thing, pineapple is one of those adored items that simply does not grow within a hundred miles of me, and I'd miss it terribly. What to do? We even buy local sprouts (the Sproutman is in neighboring PA), you know?
I'm still recovering from my wretched cold (on my blog, it's known as 'The Horrible Cold'), which has spread to everyone else in the family, office, and world, it seems. Everyone else has gotten equally sick, which relieves me of my annoyance at the fact that I could treat my body like a temple (sort of) and have it reward me with the worst headcold ever. I mean, I'm only human. Now, all the people who eat junk & meat & stuff are sick, too, and they're not asking me "if I'm going a little overboard with this diet thing" anymore. (OK, I'll stop being petty now)
(No, I have one more comment. I'll stop being petty...soon.) I can't understand how people can think that their diets are superior, I really can't. Funny that they can't take that info from anyone, it takes a tiny virus to wrench some sense back into them. (OK, now I'm done)
Next week, I've got more overtime & that means more grocery shopping/food prep before I go to bed at night, which sucks royally, but such is life.
I'm glad, really glad, that this cold is nearly gone, though. I have been really hitting the hot peppers and stuff hard, with my taste buds so blunted, and the pepper's oil makes my cuticles hurt, for some reason. Nowhere else, just my cuticles, where they've come in contact with the raw peppers while I'm chopping them. Weird.
