Give it to me Raw

So, I really cannot thank Dhru enough for creating this amazing community!! Dude, you rule times a zillion to the power of infinity. Or something really 80's like that :P

I need your help, friends. I've pretty much been falling off the Raw Wagon waaaay too often. In Taiwan, I was doing pretty well, but socially I did end up eating cooked food (albeit pretty healthy stuff, except the deep fried stinky tofu) quite a lot. People understand but there just aren't enough choices on the menu!!! It's hard enough being vegan there actually (as I live in a small metro town, not Taipei) unless you always just eat Chinese Buddhist food.

Since being home in KL, it's been even worse! I made a vow to myself before I came back that I would eat raw for 6 weeks but we have a cook at home and she is just too good.. it's way too easy to just eat all the cooked food that everyone else in my house is eating. I make all sorts of excuses. I'm still doing 2 raw meals a day but I can totally see and feel the difference that eating cooked is making. And I don't like it. Seriously though, how could I NOT eat curry laksa, nasi lemak and all the amazing Malaysian food I never get to eat! ARGH! (And there ain't no durians this time of year)

I'm going to Melbourne in about a week where I will not be able to prepare any food at home because we are packing up our house there BIG time, but it's easier to have raw options there of course, so I will try my best to stick to my guns (but I have been known to be a total sucker for the dining experiences in Melbourne argh!!).

Anyway, I'm hoping that you guys can inspire me somehow to just stick with it, and get back that self control I had when I first started eating raw. The guilty feelings start creeping up and I don't want to have guilt associated with eating, it's never a good seed to plant.

Will endeavour to keep up this blog.. It's such a pleasure to befriend all of you lovely, inspiring people!!
Love!

Dear Dhru
Thank you for the wonderful advice.
I do start every day with green juice or a green smoothie, or if I'm in a rush, some kind of freshly squeezed citrus with dried wheatgrass/ barley grass powder in. I also have not eaten bread since I started going raw, and only eat brown rice and occasionally noodles. I do have to drink more water. I wasn't eating fried food until I went to Taiwan but have really stopped that because was never a fan of it in the first place!

My goals are:
1) Green Juice/ Smoothie every morning, and I mean EVERY morning. Also when I'm in tropical countries, Papaya and Lime in the morning.

2) Drink more water. At least 1.5 L per day. And before meals

3) Always pick the raw options or at least semi raw options when out with friends, even in Taiwan! Or else just don't eat until I get home.

4) If I must eat cooked, then only have lightly steamed/ boiled vegetables (not potatoes) with minimal sauce. Every meal must have a significant raw component.

5) Figure out how to eat best for cold, damp weather.

Also, not to be too hard on myself if I sometimes fall off the wagon.

Thanks for holding me accountable Dhru! It means a lot coming from you. Anthony has been really helpful too!

Peace

Hi Miin,

First off thanks for being here and opening up.

Secondly, I feel the best way people can help you, is to keep you accountable with specific goals.

Start with a small list of goals and daily practices that you want to live up to.

Something like...

1) Daily Green Juice: Every morning I will have either a green juice or green smoothie to set the intention for my day

2) Water: Before every cooked meal I will drink 6 ounce of water

3) No / Nos: I've made a commitment to stay clear of fried foods and white bread.

You have to start where you are. If you try to jump into 100% and you don't have the fundamentals yet, you'll get thrown off because you don't have the systems in place to ensure success.

I'd start with the basic, green juice + water. And eating better cooked food. Food that isn't going to totally mess you up. From there it's easy to keep getting better each day and each week.

So what are your goals?
