Give it to me Raw

If you want some rockin' raw chocolate and you also want to eat mono and totally unprocessed.
- How about giving the Chocolate Sapote a whizz ?

Chocolate Sapotes, also known as Diospyrus digyna, grow in warm climates.
They are native to Mexico and Central America.
The Choc Sap needs to be eaten when nice and saggy baggy.
This fruit is not very often found in Supermarkets, because many people do not know how to eat it. It is sold under ripe as when it is ripe it does not transport- so squishy is it!
Then if it is eaten unripe (like the Astringent Persimmon to whom it is related) it tastes awful!!! Enough to put you off for life.
To understand just how toxic it is unripe, when unripe it is used as fish poison in the Phillipines.
Maybe better to go vegan and save the Spaotes 'til they are ripe!!

Chocolate Sapotes are just coming into season in South East Queensland; we are fortunate to have a friend who has a small orchard of this delicious fruit.
My four year old boy has had two for his breakfast this morning!

This is available as well as the Vanilla Sapote. May be possible to dry the chocolate fruit for shipments to the US.

This would be perfect for me, I love cocoa but not the wirey feeling that comes with it..wonder how it would do in a smoothie.

I just had to go out and pick some of those to try it. I hope I didn't pick it prematurely. I will have to wait and see.

I have tried the Mame and the Chicu Sapotes, but I haven't tried the one she mentions above yet, known here on Oahu in Hawaii as the Black Sapote. There is also another fruit that grows wild here in mass abundance that tastes like chocolate fudge. There are quite a few seeds that get in the way, but that means it isn't hybridized at least. Sorry, I don't have any photos or video to show you right now. My new video camera just came in the mail yesterday. Hah! Watch out! Kiani's got a digital recorder of his own. I haven't tested to see if the fruit contains any toxins or poisons yet, but I eat a lot of them with no adverse reactions. I have eaten things like Tomato Leaf that are known to be harmful, so I know what to compare it to.

Angus, It may seem like a piddling point, but I think it's important that we don't call theories "laws". And thanks for the clarification on this one. ----tele
