I need to be kinder to myself. I have had 41 years of unhealthy living and I am not going to become a super-healthy, buzzing 100% raw vegan overnight. Instead of focusing on the times I fall into old eating patterns, it is far more helpful to focus on all the goodies I've added...my god, with all these green smoothies over the past month I have eaten more dark green leafy veggies than I have in the last decade!
There are loads of cool, supportive people out there...I am learning loads from all of you, thank you!
There is more to this raw business than I first thought....should I have green juices or green smoothies in the morning, should I have my daily avocado fix or is 80-10-10 the way to go? Maybe I am buying too many books :-)
I may have wasted my money buying a dehydrator. So far I haven't really enjoyed anything I've made in it.
Buying a Vitamix was the best move yet. Yes it cost a small fortune. No my husband doesn't know how much (he'd probably choke if I told him, even though it was my money!). I use it at least once a day and LOVE IT!
Shame about the dehydrator, what I found works really well is the creation of wraps or patties using your imagination and some well combined ingredients.
I usually soak cashews and sesame seeds or linseeds (flax) as a base and food processor them and then add garlic (grated) and ginger (grated) as well as some type of sea-weed to make crackers. I use flavourings such as cracked pepper, celtic sea salt, nama shoyu and miso.
Last night I made burgers with the help of my housemate, we only had a few things on hand. We used some already dehydrated pepita and buckwheat seeds that had been soaked prior to the drying. (We have these on hand in the fridge to eat with breakfast) Shitake mushrooms formed the interest component of our patties, we blended these with tahini and miso as well as a little flax oil and the aforementioned seed mix. We also added poppy seeds and sesame seeds to the processed mix for some crunch. We shaped them, left them in the dehydrator and went for a bike ride.
We came back and devoured them with some marinated broccolli, zucchini 'hoummus' and freshly harvested tomatoes.
It sounds like you're doing really well! You're so right though, a lot of people end up focusing on the 'bad' foods they succumb to rather than looking at the positives.
I'm with you with the dark leafy greens. I was having a laugh to myself yesterday that about five months ago I didn't know what the hell kale was never mind it now being one of my absolute faves!
As for the lots to being raw, I agree, at times it can be information overload. I'd only just got my head around just eating raw food to discover there were all these factions of how to even do that! A raw friend of mine (not on this site yet) said that sometimes too much information is a bad thing and to just focus on doing what feels right until you feel ready to look in to anything more. I try hard to do that but it can drive you crazy sometimes :)
That's a shame about the dehydrator. I found a cracking sweet potato recipe on gone raw which is about all I use the oven for but I was going to attempt to make crisps this weekend. I wasn't really ever a big crisp person mind you...
Everyone says the vitamix is great. I'll wait for my trusty argos one to pack in first, I might give it a wee push off the surface - oh no, I'm a blender murderer!!
My biggest issue is croissants - I could eat four dozen of them easily. I even add butter to them and then lashings of jam or marmalade. Shocking. That's what I had on my last bender and they were yum. I'll need to dream up a raw equivalent. Maybe using cauliflower.... hmm :)

My Aunt who looks like Joanie from Happy Days says that humor is a way to escape intimacy. Maybe it's not the chicks on this site but your humor. But then that is guru Joanie talking with a poodle skirt on.
